Term 3 has seen many more changes occur in our campus with new staff arriving to continue to enhance the programs we offer to our ever-growing school.  We welcome Monir El Ghzal who is supporting our English and Humanities program.  Monir joins us from the UK where he had a number of years experience as a teacher.  Elspeth Tanguay-Koo started teaching with us last week, moving from Sydney where she has been working and studying for a period of time.  She also joins our Humanities and English program.  Jing Liao has started with us this week, moving from another school in Victoria to join our Maths teaching program.

I am confident that Morwell Campus continues to deliver some of the strongest education programs in the Latrobe Valley by ensuring a strong staffing profile full of passionate teachers.  I look forward to seeing the ongoing contributions of these staff to our programs.  We are currently interviewing for more staff that we expect to start at the beginning of Term 4.

Global Youth Forums

I recently took a small group of student leaders to the Emerging Leaders’ Forum at Melbourne University as a follow on activity to the students online international program earlier in the term.  Next week, I look forward to taking another group of Year 9 Student Leaders to the Global Youth Forum face-to-face, again at Melbourne University.  The students represent the school exceptionally well at these events and the experience of engaging with students across Asia and Australia cannot be duplicated in the classroom.  This is coupled with positive exposure to the opportunities of University in Melbourne.

Learning Behaviour Updates

We held an assembly last week to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students in the most recent Learning Behaviour Updates.  These reports are an important indicator of our students’ efforts to do well at their education.  A 4.0 score is very hard to achieve with an expectation of making continuous effort in all classes all the time.  Having been with the College for more than 15 years now, I can remember when we only had three or four students recognised across the whole campus.  This time, we celebrated close to 50. What a great achievement!  I also celebrate that 1/3 of our students are achieving over 3.50 and are being recognised with certificates for their positive efforts.

Parent Teacher Conversations

Parent teacher conversations are forthcoming and I strongly encourage all families to take the opportunity to engage with their child’s teachers.  We know that the best outcomes in education occur when learning is a partnership between school and home.  It is a good idea to bring your child along with you and allow them to take responsibility for the feedback received, both positive and negative.  If you cannot attend, we encourage you to book in for a phone appointment.
