Kirsty Johnson

What is your favourite TV show?

I enjoy lots of TV shows but currently my favourite is ‘Wednesday’ Season 2. I love watching it with my daughter.

What is your favourite food?

Italian, especially pizza from Pizzicotto.

Do you have any pets?

We did have a beautiful, slobbery, gentle Boxer called Jax and we miss him dearly. We have been keeping our eye on Australian K9 Rescue and hope to get a new furry, family member soon.

What inspired you to work in education?

I loved my time in primary school and was fortunate to have some amazing teachers who made learning exciting and meaningful. That experience inspired me to pursue education, because I wanted to give children the same joy and confidence in their learning that I was lucky to have.

What are you most proud of?

I know many parents say this, but I am most proud of our children. They’re at an age where they’re beginning to explore their own interest and hobbies - some which are quite challenging. What makes me proud is the effort and determination they show as they work hard, grow in confidence, and discover what they love.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee! I start most mornings with 2 x double shots before 7am. It’s the perfect way to start the day!

Snow or beach?

I absolutely love the beach, especially over summertime. My favourite place to visit in Victoria is Wye River.

Have you ever been given some advice that changed your life?

To really live life, you should get outside your comfort zone. Six years ago, I started doing jujitsu which is a challenging martial art. After a long six years I achieved my purple belt last year. My aim is to one day get my black belt, even if that takes another 10 years! I think we should all have goals that challenge us in some way - they are the most rewarding.

What holiday destination is on the top of your travel list and why?

I’ve been fortunate and visited a lot of destinations over the years. I still and will always have places I want to explore but Japan is on the top. Japan seems to have something for everyone and offers a mix of tradition, modern innovation, natural beauty, and unforgettable food. I have only heard amazing things!

What are you enjoying most about your role at ENPS?

There are so many things that I enjoy at ENPS. I work with the most amazing team, and I am beyond lucky to be a Foundation teacher! Every day brings funny and heartwarming moments that remind me how joyful learning can be.

Is there anything you do regularly to promote mental and physical well-being?

I believe regular movement and exercise are essential for boosting our mood and supporting both mental and physical activity. Most days I find time to either go for a run, do jujitsu or go for a walk.

Can you share a joke with us?

What do you call a bear with no teeth? A gummy bear.

Who or what makes you laugh the most?

I laugh every single day in our Foundation classroom. We could write a book on the funny sayings and moments that happen on a daily occurrence. It is the best job!
