Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Parents and carers,

Here are a couple of highlights from the last fortnight and a few important notices for next term.

Harmony Day:

Last Friday, BEPS gathered to celebrate Harmony Day. This day recognises our cultural diversity and encourages us to embrace the rich cultural backgrounds represented in our school and across Australia. The school was full of the colour orange as we celebrated inclusivity, respect and belonging, creating a lively atmosphere.

Many students proudly wore traditional outfits to reflect their cultural heritage, adding opportunities to connect with others and fun to the celebrations. Our school data highlights just how multicultural our community is, and we are very proud of this. What makes BEPS so special is the strong sense of inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all students, regardless of their language, country of birth or cultural background. It was wonderful to see our students come together and enjoy Harmony Day as a connected community.

World Maths Day:

On Wednesday, March 25, our students joined children from around the world in celebrating World Maths Day by taking part in lots of fun mathematical activities in their classrooms. From games and puzzles to challenges and creative problem-solving, students explored how maths can be exciting, engaging and part of everyday life. During these festivities, Sienna also competed in Mathletics, impressively coming 2nd in the country for her age group and 8th in the world!

Parents Association:

We recently held our Parents’ Association AGM and are delighted to welcome many new parents to the team. We also congratulate our office bearers: Pushpa, our President, Saara, our Secretary and Richa, as Treasurer and thank them for taking on these important roles. We look forward to the positive impact this team will have across our BEPS community.

The Parents’ Association has already kicked off the year with a Hot Cross Bun fundraiser, perfectly timed for the season and well supported by our community.

Looking ahead, planning is well underway for one of the most anticipated events on the school calendar — the Mother’s Day stall, taking place next term in May. We look forward to the many planned activities and opportunities ahead for both our students and parents to connect and be involved in our school community.

Swimming & Tennis:

Congratulations to our students, Ethan and Kayden, who competed at the District Tennis last week, and to Steve, Ella and Alieshia, who competed at the Divisional Swimming Championships this term.  A great effort.  Special congratulations to Steve, who qualified for the Regional event on Tuesday, and swam 2nd in both his Freestyle and Backstroke events.

Clubs Term 2:

Next term, we will be offering a range of new opportunities for different year levels through both teacher-led clubs at recess and lunch and new programs from our external providers after school. These opportunities give students a variety of experiences to learn and experience new things.

Many of these activities (clubs)  are made possible by our staff generously giving up their lunch breaks to provide extra opportunities for students to join in. If your child is interested in any of these activities next term, please encourage them to speak with the teacher running the club or their classroom teacher.

Year 6 Transition:

The state-wide Year 6–7 transition process will commence in the first week of next term. All Year 6 students across Victoria will receive a transition information pack outlining the process, including the required paperwork for secondary school applications. Please keep an eye out for this information early next term. This year, the transition system is moving online, making it easier to access and submit the necessary forms.

In the meantime, we encourage our Year 6 students and their families to attend open days and school tours over the next several weeks, to explore local secondary schools and get a feel for different settings. If you’re interested, contact local Catholic and Independent secondary schools directly to arrange a visit or find out more about their enrolment processes.

Sun Smart:

Reminder: Hats still on your Head (or COLA instead) next term! Please note the school’s SunSmart policy requires all students to wear their school SunSmart hats until April 30.

Students are encouraged to bring their own sunscreen and apply it as required during the day. Staff will remind students at the start of our break times as a prompt to ensure we are all being SunSmart.

Wishing you all a happy and safe break over the holidays.

Teri and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday, 20th April at 8.45 for Term 2.
