MIDDLE SCHOOL | School Update

Dear Parents/Carers, Students And Friends

Term 1 has been a positive and productive start to the year for our Year 9 and 10 students. We have begun 2026 with a strong focus on our refined and clearly defined school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Empathy, which continue to guide our learning culture and interactions across the school.

  • Respect – We act with respect by being safe, kind, and fair.
  • Responsibility – We act with responsibility by making positive choices and owning our actions.
  • Resilience – We demonstrate resilience by accepting challenges and persevering through them.
  • Empathy – We show empathy by being inclusive and compassionate.

It has been an action-packed term, particularly in the area of careers and pathways, with students engaging in meaningful experiences to support their future planning. Our Year 9 students have completed their Morrisby Profiling, preparing them for Morrisby Interviews in Term 2 with trained careers practitioners. Meanwhile, our Year 10 students have been preparing for their upcoming Work Experience, scheduled for Week 10 of Term 2.

A highlight of the term was our Year 10 assembly, where students had the opportunity to hear from past Frankston High School alumni about their unique and inspiring journeys beyond school. We thank Emily House (Class of 2009), Rebecca Wallace (Class of 2024), and Kacie Stephens (Class of 2003) for sharing their experiences, particularly the role that work experience played in shaping their pathways. Their stories reinforced that careers and pathways are not linear, and that the journey looks different for everyone. The key message for students was the importance of engaging fully in each learning opportunity along the way, as these experiences help inform future decisions and open unexpected doors.

Our Year 9 and 10 students have also completed their Career Action Plans, available to families via the Compass Insights tab. These plans support students to reflect on their strengths, interests, and goals, and to take actionable steps toward their future pathways. They play an important role in building the knowledge, skills, and confidence students need to make informed decisions about education, training, and employment.

We encourage families to explore the Frankston High School Careers Website, accessible via Compass through the star tab. This platform provides valuable resources, including Careers Newsletters and up-to-date information about pathways and opportunities.

In addition to careers and pathways, half of our Year 10 cohort has successfully completed their Teen Mental Health First Aid certification, with the remaining students set to undertake this important learning early in Term 2. This program plays a vital role in equipping students with the skills and confidence to support their own wellbeing and that of others.

We also congratulate our Year 9 students on their excellent focus and learning behaviours throughout the NAPLAN testing period. Thank you to our families and staff for your support in preparing students for the Writing, Reading, Language Conventions, and Numeracy assessments. NAPLAN results will be shared with families later in the year.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our dedicated Year 9 and 10 teaching teams for their ongoing work in supporting and challenging students in their pursuit of Optima Semper. Your commitment to high-quality teaching, strong relationships, and consistent expectations is central to the positive start our students have made this year.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the Middle School Leadership Team for their collective work in supporting our students’ academic progress and wellbeing. The coordinated efforts of our staff ensure that every student is known, supported, and appropriately challenged.

We look forward to continuing this strong momentum into Term 2 and thank our students, staff, and families for their ongoing support. We will conclude the term by celebrating our students at the Year 9 and 10 assemblies, where our three Pillar Awards recognise excellence, aspiration, and community.

I wish all our Year 9 and 10 students and families a safe and enjoyable Term 1 break. The Middle School Team looks forward to welcoming students back for Term 2.
