OPENING CEREMONY NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS

OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS

On Wednesday 13th March our school was honoured to host the Victorian Deputy Premier, and Education Minister, Mr Ben Carroll, to officially open our new Middle School Learning Hub, Bunji Building and surrounding landscaping. Mr Carroll was given a tour of our new facilities and met with a Year 7/8 class who asked questions including, “How did you get into politics?”, “How important is listening to the community to you?” and “What do you do in your free time?”.

After this, all staff and students met in our Bunji Building to hear from Mr Carroll at a whole school assembly. A number of special guests were also invited to attend this ceremony including Mr Danny O’Brien (local state member for Gippsland South), Mr Tom McIntosh (local state member for Eastern Victoria) and representatives from the Department of Education, Korumburra Round Table, TAFE Gippsland, LLEN, Korumburra RSL, Korumburra Secondary College School Council, Burra Foods, Rotary, Koringal Womens Club and the KCDA. Each of these individuals and organisations have been tremendous supporters of our school and we thank them for their ongoing support.

The opening was finalised with the ceremonial cutting of a red ribbon at the top of the ramp to our new buildings.

SMOKING CEREMONY

It was a wonderful day on Wednesday 13th March celebrating the opening of our new Middle School Learning Hub, Bunji Building and surrounding landscaped areas. It was fantastic to welcome the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Mr Ben Carroll, to our school earlier today to officially open these buildings. We are very grateful for all the support we have received from the Victorian Government to make these new buildings possible.

Earlier in  the day we also had the opportunity to celebrate our new buildings with some special guests and valued members of our community. Each of these special guests have been great supporters of the school and we are also very appreciative of their ongoing support.

And then in the evening we had an open evening for all members of our community to come into our school and view our buildings and facilities. Being able to share our special day with our whole community has been particularly important to us as we know the importance of a school in its community. We want all local community members to be as proud of our school as we are, as we know that pride in your school leads to pride in your town. We know that a strong school leads to a strong town.

Our day concluded with a Smoking Ceremony from local elder Jarrod West who explained to us the significance of connection to land and environment to the traditional owners of this land. The value of feeling connected to our school and its environment, taking pride in creating and maintaining a positive place to be for teaching and learning are themes that we have been speaking to students about regularly, and encourage them to continue to consider.

Thank you to all community members who have came through our school on Wednesday 13th March. We are proud to be your local Secondary College and look forward to continuing to work together in the future to support the young people of our area, along with all community members.
