International Mindedness in Harmony Week

World Harmony Day in the Junior School is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity within our community. Celebrating cultural diversity is well and truly embedded in our everyday school life and is intentionally explored during our PYP Units of Inquiry. Harmony Day provides an opportunity to pause and reflect, as a whole school community, on the importance of cultural richness. Respect, inclusiveness and intercultural understanding are instrumental in developing internationally minded global citizens who help to create a better and more peaceful world.

IB Learner Profile: Thinker

The IB learner profile aims to develop students who are thinkers. Students who are thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognise and approach complex problems and make reasoned, ethical decisions. IB students are encouraged to contribute to discussions in a meaningful way. They do not avoid challenging questions but instead, explore possible answers and continue to ask “why?”

In Year 4, students have been developing the learner profile attribute of 'thinker' during their unit of inquiry based upon the transdisciplinary theme of 'Sharing the Planet'. Whilst inquiring about different roles that exist within the environment, our students have been collecting and synthesising information on producers, composers and decomposers. Next, they used critical thinking skills by sorting various living organisms and connecting them to demonstrate their understanding of a functioning food chain.

Thinkers in Humanities

Year 7s have been undertaking their 'History Mystery Project' this term as part of their 'Detectives of the Past' unit. This investigative project has given them the opportunity to select an unsolved historical case (at least fifty years old) and using their critical thinking skills, try to unpack the evidence, problem-solve, challenge theories and suggest possible conclusions in order to try to crack the case. Students created models to support their ideas and supplied substantial case notes... as all good detectives do!! 🕵️‍♂️

Aarav, in 7A, demonstrates his prototype for the DB Cooper investigation.

Bruktawit in 7E is focusing on The Titanic.
