LEARNING DIVERSITY

This week, selected students participated in the Gateways program. GATEWAYS are an external company that works with students who have a particular passion, interest or gift in a certain curriculum area. The focus this term wasa program called ‘Curiouser and Curiouser.’ Students completed fun and engaging science activities with the GATEWAYS facilitators all day here at St Brigid's.

Our Enhancement Team -  Melissa Roberts and Hannah Richards, as well as the Learning Support Officers, are well underway with their targeted learning and teaching. They work with selected students throughout the school to target specific learning needs in Mathematics and Literacy.

RE NEWS

Catholic Education Week

Catholic Education Week was celebrated last week.  The theme for this year was ‘In the Light of Christ’.  This week culminated with Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral followed by a celebration in the Treasury Gardens. Our Yr 6 Liturgy and Community leaders were lucky enough to attend with approximately 3000 other young Catholics from across the Archdiocese. Here are some reflections from our students.

Harry H - The Liturgy and Community Group went to the St Patrick Cathedral. We got to school at 8.00 and went there by train. We had a Mass and there were three thousand people and seven priests. We went to the Treasury Gardens after and there was music and fun activities like soccer and tug of war. It was all fun and I loved it. All of the musicians were teenagers from different schools.

Sasha H - The Liturgy and Community leaders went to the Mordialloc train station at about 8 am and got to the City. Everyone walked together to St Patrick’s Cathedral and waited for Mass to start. Afterwards, we happily went to Treasury Gardens and listened to a concert. There were singers, drummers, and even more. Personally, my favourite songs they played were by Taylor Swift!  After lots of walking and experiences, we finally got to the train station's City Loop and headed back to school.

Ethan F & Finn W -The Liturgy and Community group travelled to the Mordialloc Train Station at 8:00am in the morning. Once we made it to the city, we walked to St Patrick’s Cathedral, where we attended a Mass. Once the Mass had finished we proceeded to Treasury Gardens where there were fun games like mini soccer matches and tug-of-war. Some of the other secondary schools’ bands performed a concert where they sang songs like You Belong With Me, Shake It Off and Treasure.

Project Compassion

This year, we shared with you the story of three inspiring women from across the globe, who overcame challenges to complete their education, access water and find secure employment. With the support of compassionate people like you, they are now forging a path to a better future for their families and their communities.

Ronita from the Philippines has now graduated high school and secured a job at a call centre. This job was only possible because of a certificate she gained from completing her studies.

Leaia and her family now have a water tank at their home in Samoa. She and her family now have a steady supply of clean drinking water. Next year, they will also have a toilet built, with the support of Caritas Samoa, which will further improve their health and living conditions.

Memory completed her vocational training course in carpentry and joinery. After completing a work contract at one of the largest electrical companies in Malawi, Memory now plans to return to her village and provide carpentry services to people in her community.

It’s through the generosity of people like you that we can continue to support people like Ronita, Leaia and Memory.

There is still time to donate! Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow, for all future generations.

Please return your Project Compassion boxes by next week.
