This week, our Year 3's and 5's commenced the NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN is a National Literacy and Numeracy assessment that students undertake across the country. NAPLAN assesses the students essential skills in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.
We began with the NAPLAN Writing Test on Wednesday morning. This required students to write a narrative using the topic 'The Boat'.
Our students approached the tests in a calm manner. They were focussed, and demonstrated a positive attitude as they had previously completed a lot of work on writing narratives.
It was wonderful to see students planning their writing, thinking about the structure that was required for a narrative piece of writing, using descriptive and figuartive language. Some students included sizzling starts and dialogue in their stories, and towards the end of their test, all students had the opprtunity to proof read and edit their writing, checking for spelling, grammar and punctuation.
We encouraged all students just to do their best. We are very proud of their efforts. Thank you to our teachers and families for the wonderful preparation of the children.
For more information about NAPLAN please see the link below and feel free to chat with your child's teacher or myself if you have any questions or concerns:
