A huge thank you to Tracey for keeping things running so smoothly in my absence! Tracey has supported Miss Lyon in following my educational program so the students continue to progress forward with their learning journey.
Swimming was a HUGE success, and it was pleasing to hear that all students learnt essential survival skills as well as having fun.
I am progressing well with my injury and start physiotherapy next week as part of the recovery process.
How many squares?
Students need to work out how many squares they can see.
Visual Arts
Foundation students will begin the term creating dinosaur art. They will use slits to construct a dinosaur, cut and paste shapes to create a dinosaur inspired by the book If the Dinosaurs Came Back, and use stencils to explore positive and negative shapes. Students will also create a foamboard collagraph plate to further explore printing techniques.
Throughout the term students will also be developing their cutting and drawing skills.
We will be using PVA glue and acrylic paints this term, so please ensure your child has an art smock to protect their school uniform. Smocks can be bought or made from an old, oversized top. The smocks must be clearly named and will be kept in a classroom tub for the children to wear when using messy art materials.
Mandarin
Prep students will be introduced to reading and writing 10 numbers in Chinese. Through engaging activities, they will consolidate their understanding of these numbers. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in fun activities related to the Dragon Boat Festival. These activities will further enrich their understanding of Chinese culture.
Science
In Term 2, Foundation students will be learning about physical science, in particular looking at light and sound - how they are produced and how they and can be sensed.
Performing Arts
In Performing Arts this term, students will be performing melodic patterns on the xylophone, singing familiar melodies, creating and responding to rhythmic patterns using hand drums, and learning about rhythmic notation using quarter notes and rests. They will also be expressing themselves with dancing and participating in musical games that teach the concepts of pitch and rhythm.
Physical Education
The program this term focuses on basic movement, balance and the following fundamental motor skills: leap, dodge, jump, run and underarm throw. Students will be working to improve their eye/hand and eye/foot coordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills.
