Religious Education

Dear parents and families

As we come to the end of Term One, I reflect back over the first nine weeks of the school year with gratitude for the warm and generous welcome from many in our community.   It’s been a joy and privilege to be back at St Luke’s and I applaud the efforts of so many individuals within our community contributing to creating and maintaining St Luke’s as a wonderful learning environment for the children in our care.

Thank you to our children for embracing the many learning opportunities offered on a daily basis to further develop knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of learning areas, interests and the ongoing spiritual development as a person.

I had the pleasure of attending the year 5/6 Sovereign Hill Camp last week.  Our students were great ambassadors of our school values and showed great leadership. Whilst we didn’t strike it rich on the goldfields we had loads of fun participating in the many activities on offer at Sovereign Hill, making lasting memories and strengthening friendships.

Our focus this week has been on Holy Week and the events of the first Easter over two thousand years ago. Students have been celebrating and learning about the significance of Holy Week and how we have prepared ourselves throughout Lent.   At the beginning of Term Two we will celebrate the joy and mystery of the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

As our children and families begin the Parish-based Sacramental Program in preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, we are reminded of our own rites of passage, of journey, of preparation and faith. The Lenten season has provided our Catholic and Christian families opportunity to pray, to give alms and, to fast as we have celebrated Holy Week and look forward to the Easter mystery in the coming days.  Our muslim families are now well into the season of Ramadan, similarly praying, fasting, reflection and community gathering. Members of our Indian community will soon celebrate the Festival of Colours.  It’s a wonderful time of the year.

I wish each and everyone of our school community a peaceful and happy Easter.
