SCHOOL OF POSSIBILITIES

VCE Kitchenette

On Monday we opened the VCE kitchenette with a morning tea for our year 11 & year 12 students.Ā  The students have been very patient while we went about setting up equipment and getting all electrical items tagged and tested and ready for use.Ā  The space allows students to heat up lunches, make toasted sandwiches and noodles and hot drinks.Ā  There is a sink and dishwashing and cleaning supplies so hopefully students can follow the motto of ā€˜leave no traceā€™.Ā  This week has been amazing - keep up the good work students!

Ā

White Card Training

Our year 11 VM students went through a day's training in order to receive their white card.Ā  We had an outside trainer come and work through content and assess students on the day.Ā  The white card (or general construction induction card) is an industry qualification required for students whoĀ want to carry out construction work. People who need a white card include: site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers and tradespeople.Ā  This training was provided free of charge to our students as part of our association with educlick who provide resources to our students.

Year 10 Camp

Preparations have begun for the Year 10 Melbourne City Camp. This camp takes place from Monday, 13 May - Wednesday, 15 May. It is expected that all students in Year 10 attend, as this camp is an important part of Careers education. The camp provides a great opportunity for students to connect with higher education providers as well as build confidence with public transport. If your child is not able to attend, please notify myself or Mez as soon as possible. In the coming days, students will be asked to provide important information regarding dietary requirements and medical needs. Please support your child to complete these tasks. A letter with more information will be sent to families prior to the end of this term.Ā

Ā

Learning Conversations

A reminder that Learning Conversations for SOP students continue next week on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. These conversations, called three-way conversations, provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their learning and seek guidance from staff, while being supported by a parent or guardian.Ā

We would like to wish all of our students and their families a restful and renewing Easter break.Ā

School Uniform Reminders

Wearing an academic uniform with blazers is part of the expectation of students in the School of Possibilities.Ā  It is important that as a school we educate students for what is expected for ā€˜lifeā€™ out of school.Ā  If students are required to wear uniforms as part of their part time work or in their work placement and/or they have to wear certain shoes i.e. black leather fully enclosed lace up shoes or work boots employers will often cancel shifts and send students home.Ā  It is an expectation that students wear the correct uniform each day with the correct footwear.

Ā

We are now at the end of week 6 of school this term.Ā  There has been plenty of time for students to organise with their parents to purchase the correct uniform.Ā  Of note there are a number of students who continue to wear the wrong coloured shoes with their academic uniform.Ā  Students are expected to have black shoes and to wear them with their academic uniform.Ā  If parents/guardians could please ensure that this is addressed for next week.Ā  Any concerns please contact one of the School Leaders.

Ā

We appreciate your assistance with ensuring that your child comes to school each day in the full correct school uniform.

Ā

Please provide a written note if your child is out of uniform and inform us how long it will be until the correct uniform will be available.

Ā

Uniform days

  • Monday - all SOP may wear PE uniform and year 12 students may wear their rugby jumpers.
  • Tuesday - all students wear academic uniform with either a school knitted jumper or blazer only.
  • Wednesday - some students may have a double PE on schedule and if so can wear PE.
  • Thursday - some students may have a double PE on schedule and if so can wear PE.
  • Friday - all SOP students are to wear their full academic uniform with either a school knitted jumper or blazer only.

Learning Resources

We still have families with outstanding balances for the Jacaranda Digital Library subscription and Edrolo learning resources. We appreciate that families settle these accounts ASAP. Time is valuable and following up families to ensure payment is made takes away from other important duties our staff have. If you are unsure if you have a balance owing, you can contact me atĀ sbaglin@sackialla.catholic.edu.au.Ā

All Year 10 and VCE students need to purchase the Jacaranda Digital Subscription through Campion using the code on the front of the booklist. Students pay for Edrolo through their Edrolo portal. Ask your student to log into their Edrolo account and you will see the red ā€œPay Nowā€ link. Thankyou for your support in this matter.Ā

Ā

Expectations

All students in the SOP are expected to remain focused in their learning spaces during all timetabled classes.Ā  Students are to bring their macbooks, folders, pens, textbooks, a water bottle and anything else they require.

Ā

Lockers

All students must have a lock on their lockers and this lock should be locked at all times.Ā  This is essential for our Year 11 and Year 12 studentsā€™ lockers that are accessible from the outside.Ā  There have been incidents in the past where macbooks and learning materials and books have been stolen out of unlocked lockers overnight and on the weekends.Ā  It is a requirement of the signed ICT agreement that students have devices stored in locked lockers.

Ā

Year 11 & 12 students who do not have a lock on their locker by the end of the day Monday, will be moved inside to a locker indoors.

Ā

Pastoral Group attendance

Students should arrive at school in time to attend pastoral group each morning commencing at 8.55am.Ā  This is an important part of the day and a time for prayer and reflection.Ā  Teachers are able to follow-up with students and check in on how they are doing. Daily messages are delivered to students at this time.Ā  It is vital that the school completes accurate records for attendance and the roll is marked during this session.

Ā

Use of air pods and mobile phones

Students are not permitted to use air pods or mobile phones while at school.Ā  These items are to be left in students lockers during the school day.Ā  Parents are asked not to ring their childā€™s mobile phone while they are at school or expect them to receive text messages.Ā  If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please contact the front office who will deliver the message on your behalf.

Ā

Your support on these matters is greatly appreciated.

Ā

Thanks for your support,Ā

Ā - Mez Lia & Sarah Baglin
