SCHOOL OF INNOVATION
Year 9 - Art
Ā
Bringing self-portraits to life with Year 9 artĀ
Ā
The Year 9 students have demonstrated self-portraits can look a lot different to what is first expected when you think of the term.
Ā
Inspired by artworks by artists like Jason Thielke, Song Ling and Deborah Kelly, the students were tasked with creating their own numerology self-portrait.
Ā
A variety of mediums were used to bring the artworks together including transfer techniques, colour and led pencil, pen, coloured markers and paint. The artworks included some facial features as well as objects and numbers that are personal to the students.
Ā
Well done to the students on creating these fantastic pieces! We might have some future Picassos in our mix!Ā
Year 8 - Humanities
ššš¤š„šš£ šššš”šš¦ššššš£š¤!Ā
It's not every day our students become the craftspeople for Viking King Ragnar Lodbrok. But that's exactly what the Year 8CC Humanities students have been doing!
Ā
Working in small groups, students have been tasked with constructing Viking longships to deliver to the King.
Ā
Lodbrok is in need of fast and capable ships to make the journey from the Viking homelands to the British Isles and the Holy Roman Empire. He plans on using these finely built ships to raid and pillage and to make trade and colonise some land in these areas.
8CC are proving to be very skilled Master Shipbuilders and we're sure Lodbrok will be impressed with his new fleet!
Horses for Hope
St Anneās College Year 8 students were treated to a special visit this week from Horses For Hope and pony Simon.
Ā
Simon is about to graduate from the program thanks to the amazing work of St Anneās College student Charlotte Almond. Charlotte has been working with Simon each fortnight at Horses for Hope for the past year and now Simon is ready to be rehomed.
Ā
Located just outside of Shepparton, Horses for Hope is a nature-based therapy experience that uses the connection between horses and humans to heal and improve the lives of both. Students were taught why the work is so important and got the chance to pat Simon - who would not even let a human near him when he came into Horses For Hopeās care six years ago.Ā
Ā
Thank you to Simon, Charlotte and the Horses for Hope team for sharing the experience with the Year 8 students.

Class Resources
Ā
Our iPads! Please ensure that any damage is reported to Pastoral Group Leaders and IT staff to ensure that it can be rectified as soon as possible.Ā iPads must be fully charged each day and it is encouraged that we adopt good habits to assist us with this.Ā
Ā
We understand as we are in Term 4 that sometimes our resources such as folders, books and pens can be a little worse for wear. It is important that we continue to care for our resources and ensure we take all required items to class to best assist us with engaging in our learning. If an item has been damaged or lost, it will need to be replaced so we can continue to undertake our best learning in Term 4 as we complete the year.Ā
Term 1 Uniform Update
Ā
It is that time of year again where the sun is shining and our students are required to wear their school hats as part of the Term 1 and 4 uniform. As we are a Sun Smart School it is vitally important that the students within the School of Innovation are able to role model this behaviour to our younger students within the School of Wonder. This is essential to ensure that all of the students at the College are protected from the damage the sun can cause during the Spring and Summer months. If your student requires a hat, they will be able to purchase one from the school uniform shop.Ā
Important Pastoral Group Information
Ā
At St. Anneās College, all students within the School of Innovation are allocated to a Pastoral Group. These groups are overseen by a Pastoral Group Leader and currently comprise students from their respective houses: Montessori, Charles, Cooper, and Majella houses.
Ā
Each morning, students commence their day within their Pastoral Groups. This time involves participation in morning prayer, a welcome to country, and updates about the day's news and events at the College. This period holds significance in allowing our students to establish strong connections with their peers and their Pastoral Leader. Consequently, our students are able to cultivate a strong sense of community at St. Anneās College.
Ā
Our Pastoral Leaders also seize this opportunity to implement the three core principles of Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM), which stem from our school-wide program conducted by the Resilience Project. These principles encourage our students to contemplate and recognize the positive facets of their day-to-day experiences both at the College and at home. This practice ensures that our students embark on each day well-prepared for successful learning and meaningful connections with others.
Ā
Given that this session only spans 10 minutes each morning, it is imperative that students are punctual and actively participate within their designated Pastoral Groups. If students miss this period or arrive late, they will forfeit this crucial initiation to the school day.
Ā
We extend our gratitude to all parents and caregivers for your sustained support in ensuring that this routine is upheld for the continued success of our students.
Important Uniform Information
Ā
A reminder that all School of Innovation students are required to wear their academic uniform items each day, except for sports days or other nominated days when their sports uniform items can be worn. Please ensure your student is in their full academic uniform. If this is not possible on a particular day, please send a note, including the date your student will be able to be in full school uniform.
Ā
A dress code, in particular a uniform, provides a visual connection to identify students as members of St Anneās College community. The way a uniform is worn makes a statement about our college and it represents the fact that the student is a part of the community.Ā The benefits of a school uniform include:
Ā
ā¢ Allows all students to feel equal
ā¢ Helps prevent bullying and competition on the basis of clothing
ā¢ Ensures students appearance reflects the expectations of St Anneās College
ā¢ Enhances the profile and identity of the College and its students in the wider community
ā¢ Strengthens the spirit of community within St Anneās College
ā¢ Enhances individual student safety and group security
ā¢ Ensured all students are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities
ā¢ Encourages students to develop pride in their appearance
ā¢ Prepares students for the expectations in workplaces
ā¢ Encourages students to present themselves appropriately for a particular role
Ā
Thank you for your support.
