SCHOOL OF WONDER

We’ve hit the final week of Term 1 - time flies when you’re having fun!

Lots of exciting activities and events happening in SOW.

Foundation

In Foundation students have been learning about 2D shapes in Maths. Students created a self-portrait out of 2D shapes.

On Friday the foundation students with their buddies. Students drew contrast self-portraits of their buddies where they couldn't lift their grey led. They then used pastels to colour them in.

Foundation students have also been exploring onset and rime through different books. Students looked at '_at' rhyming words in 'Cat and the Hat'.

We have been learning how to write the letters of the alphabet and to write the first and last sound in words.

Foundation students have started using their ipads to read decodable books and have taken photos on their ipads.

Year 1/2

The 1/2 classes have finished learning about how we organise ourselves. Students went on an excursion to Lake Victoria to observe traffic systems, the Aquamoves pool cleaning system, and facilities available to the community at Lake Victoria. Paramedics visited St. Anne’s last week and spoke about the system of calling for an ambulance in an emergency.

To conclude the topic, students worked on an individual project about a system needed in our community, creating, labelling, and explaining how the system worked.

Year 3/4

In Year 3/4 we have been learning different addition strategies such as Partition, Bridging to 10, and Jump strategy. With this strategies, students are empowered to unlock the mysteries of numbers, unlock their full potential, hone their Math skills with precision and confidence

In Writing, students have been exploring creative expression through poetry like acrostic poem and diamanté poem. Through writing exercises and brainstorming sessions, students honed their creative thinking skills, learning to generate original ideas and imagery for their poems.

Integrating storyboard creation and iMovie technology into Religious Education classes proved to be a powerful tool for enhancing student learning and engagement. By combining traditional storytelling with digital media, students were able to explore religious themes in a dynamic and interactive manner, fostering deeper understanding, critical thinking, and creativity.

Students are working on their 'I-Time' project, exploring what is unique about themselves and expressing it through various forms of art such as painting, drawing, video recording, photo taking and among others.

Performing Art

Foundation- During Performing Art Foundation students have been exploring emotions, what these look like using facial expressions and our bodies, how they feel, how we identify them in ourselves and others. We have been working collaboratively and beginning to explore our personal strengths and how we can share these.

Years 1/2 - During Performing Art we have been exploring characters and how we can build characters by using our own knowledge of emotions and body language. We have explored various of theatre through collaboration and improvisation.

Years 3/4 - During Performing Art we have been learning about status, tension, time and place. We have been focusing on building various characters, and improvised soundscapes to take our audience on a journey to a specific time and place.

Visual Arts & STEM

Week 8 has moved us into Easter anticipation. Visual Arts has been spent making Easter bonnets. The students have been busily applying their cutting, colouring and pasting skills to create their own glorious bonnets that they will exhibit at the upcoming parade.

STEM has also taken on an Easter theme with the students being presented with a challenge to make a basket using just 1 piece of paper, masking tape and scissors. Oh the discussion, problem solving and creativity!!!!!!! It was wonderful! Once they completed their baskets, we gathered to count how many Easter eggs their baskets could hold. Some held a small amount before they began to fall apart and others seemed to be unbreakable! The students could identify why some baskets were strong and sturdy and where other designs could be improved.

It has been an exciting time of discovery, creativity and learning in both the Visual Arts and STEM sessions, with each and every child bringing their own unique experiences and ideas to support their innovative learning.

Physical Education

The SOW students have been having a crack at cricket the last few weeks. Combining the skill sets of batting, bowling and fielding, every student has developed their knowledge and abilities in recent weeks. Many students have told stories of watching/playing cricket at home which made Ryleigh pleased as it is one of his favorite sports too!

This final week of term PE will be having cricket matches to showcase their skill.

SOW Assembly

Next SOW assembly - Monday March 25 - Week 9 and led by 3/4 AW.

At the end of our assembly we will also be showcasing the incredibly creative easter bonnets that our SOW students have been working hard in creating. We welcome our family and friends to come along and be a part of the audience in a spectacular end of term assembly.

Prior to our assembly - and each assembly week - Kara and Emma will be holding an information session between 8.30am - 8:55am. The theme for Week 9 will remain as Reading (week 6 did not go ahead); what it looks like in the SOW at St Anne’s College and what Home Reading can include. These sessions are not compulsory, they are informal, an opportunity to hear and see examples, and ask any questions. Information shared will be communicated to families through PAM.

Arriving at school

Please support our staff, and remember that drop off for children is from 8:30am. This is when staff are on duty. Prior to this any staff onsite are preparing for the day ahead, duty of care requirements mean children onsite require supervision and doing this takes staff away from their important preparation time.

Year 1/2

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀!

Year 1 and 2 children received an exciting visit from Ambulance Victoria this week! The children heard from teddy bear ‘Stretch’ in a short video which taught them the importance of knowing your address or how to describe where you live when calling Triple Zero (000).

The children were also given a special look inside an ambulance to see what was inside.

Thank you to the paramedics who visited the college to share their knowledge!

Hats and Sunscreen

In Term 1, it is a school expectation that we are all wearing hats when we are outside. If a student does not have a hat, they are required to stay under the covered areas provided. Please ensure that hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

All students are reminded and encouraged to bring their own SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to school. Staff will oversee the safe use of sunscreen.
