Emma is off to France!

After only recently hanging up the boots to her Sports Aerobics career last year, SOW Leader of Community & Wellbeing, Emma O’Keeffe is already kicking goals again.

“I closed the door on my aerobics career last year and knew I wanted to do something else to keep my love for competition alive, and this popped up,” she said.

Emma recently entered the Hyrox Fitness Challenge which came to Australia for the first time last year in the pairs division along with her friend and gym partner Mel Hinchcliffe.

She said she was surprised the duo ended up placing second out of 68 teams which means Emma will be jetting off to compete in the World Championships in France in June this year.

The challenge consisted of eight sets of exercises alternating with eight sets of 1km runs.“We are entered into the pairs division which means we share the reps at each of the eight stations,” Emma said. The eight stations include 1000m ski-erg, 50m sled push, 50m sled pull, 80m burpee broad jumps, 1000m row, 200m kettlebells farmer carry, 100m sandbag lunges and 100 wall balls.

She said she is looking forward to heading to France and delving into the new experience. “I get excited about the unknown,” Emma said.

“Having no expectations or previous benchmarks to live up to means we can go out there without too much pressure and just enjoy the experience.”

Emma said she and Mel had received incredible support from the community during the lead up to the championships.

“I'm incredibly grateful to live in a community that gets amongst local people playing sport,” she said.

From all of us at St Anne’s, we wish Emma all the very best success at the World Championships!

Welcoming our new staff

Tara Whitsed

I am very excited to be joining the team at St Anne's as Communications Officer. I live in Euroa with my partner Eddie and our beautiful dog Stella and our wild cat Soda.

Education is incredibly important to me and I'm very excited to bring my skills in media, writing and communications to the SACK community.

I come from a background in journalism and spent many more than five years with the Shepparton News and most recently came from a Communications and Engagement role with Strathbogie Shire Council.

In my spare time, I love to extend my creativity to other interests such as gardening and cooking while listening to music or an intriguing podcast. And if I'm really relaxed, you'll find me with a book or a set of knitting needles, or watching copious amounts of Kath and Kim or Seinfeld.
