Holy Week Prayer Service

Thank you to all Parents and Carers who attended our Prayer Service yesterday. A special thanks to Bernadette from leading the choir and our Year 4 readers.

Today is Holy Thursday. In the Catholic (Christian) Tradition, Holy Thursday is an important day on the liturgical calendar during The Easter Triduum. After arriving in Jerusalem, via Bethpage on Easter Sunday, Jesus broke bread (body) and shared wine (blood) with his friends during the Passover meal on Holy Thursday. This is where Jesus washed his disciples' feet and this is the origin of the Holy Eucharist.

Then they went to the garden of Gethsename, at the foot of the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem.

This would have been a particular difficult time for Jesus as he, as being fully human, comes to the realisation that his end is very near and he feels very alone. The story of Jesus' agony in The Garden is powerful and much can be said for these last moments of our Savior's life before he was betrayed, as described in the synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke as well as in John's Gospel.

Tomorrow is Good Friday

On this day we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. Jesus' journey to the Cross is explained in the Stations of the Cross.

In 2023 Pope Francis led 'THE PASSION OF THE LORD: THE WAY OF THE CROSS' at the Colloseum in Rome and he finished with this prayer with which I wish you a reflective weekend, a happy Easter and wonderful break.

Lord Jesus, eternal Word of the Father, you became silent for us.  And in the silence that leads us to your tomb, there is still a word that we want to say to you, recalling the journey of the Stations of the Cross we have travelled with you: thank you!

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the meekness that overwhelms arrogance.

Thank you, for the courage with which you embraced the cross.

Thank you, for the peace that flows from your wounds.

Thank you, for having given us your holy Mother to be our Mother as well.

Thank you, for the love shown in the face of betrayal.

Thank you, for turning tears into smiles.

Thank you, for having loved everyone without excluding anyone.

Thank you, for the hope you instill in time of trial.

Thank you, for the mercy that heals sufferings.

Thank you, for stripping yourself of everything to enrich us.

Thank you, for having transformed the cross into the tree of life.

Thank you, for the forgiveness you offered your executioners.

Thank you, for having defeated death.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the light you kindled in our nights.

In reconciling all divisions, you made us all brothers and sisters, children of the same Father who is in heaven,

Amen

Kinds Regards,
