This Week at OOPS

Harmony Day

We celebrated Harmony Day last week (Thursday, March 21st) across the school. It was wonderful to see students expressing their identity and culture through our free dress day, as well as wearing a splash of orange to represent social communication and meaningful conversations. Students shared their ideas and reasons for their dress choices with classmates, and many classes realised just how diverse the Old Orchard community is and why it’s important that we celebrate this! Students also participated in a whole-school ‘Reading for Pleasure’ session at 9:30, which showcased our love for reading and sharing our passions through texts. We also squeezed in our whole-school Dojo Pear Reward of a movie afternoon, so well done for achieving our 100 Pear Goal already this term. A huge thank you to all of the parents/carers and staff who attended the Harmony Day afternoon tea. Families and staff brought along different foods from their cultures and enjoyed trying new foods, meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

Message from the S.R.C. captains:  “Thank you to everyone who brought along food to share at the Harmony Day afternoon tea and made it even more fun than it already was. The school was looking very colourful and diverse, so thanks to everyone for making the effort”. Thanks to everyone for getting involved, Avina and Ishaan

The Year 2 teachers and students would like to thank Jess, Sarah, Fran, Ruth, Caroline and Oneil for coming in on Monday to speak to the students about their roles in the community that help others. The students really enjoyed learning about the roles of nurses, librarians, neurologists, scientists and counsellors and had some wonderful questions that sparked interesting discussions. This was an excellent opportunity to finish our Inquiry unit and learn from the Old Orchard community. We really appreciate our guests giving up some of their time to come and talk to the Year 2 cohort.
