Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Congratulations to our students, staff and community members on a wonderful Term 1. Schools are always busy and exciting places, with great learning taking place and a wide range of additional events and activities. Term 1 has included our Learning Launch, the introduction of STEM as our fifth Specialist subject, School Photos, NAPLAN for Year 3 and Year 5 classes, Year 6 Camp, Year 6 ‘Talk About It’, House Cross Country, School Council Elections,  Harmony Day, Student Badge Presentations and training, Parent-Teacher Chats and much more! It’s time to draw breath before we jump into Term 2.

We are looking to ‘re-brand’ our newsletter with a catchy new name that links closely with our school name and identity. Feel free to send through an email with any suggestions and we will look to make the change at some stage during Term 2.

During the school holidays, there will be workers on site making improvements to our school facilities. If you are around the school at these times, please watch from afar. If you have children in Years 5 or 6 who might be on site playing basketball or riding bikes, please remind them to stay well clear of any works that are being undertaken.

Our very best wishes to the following students who will be finishing up at Old Orchard at the end of term: Johann Leojniel, Jehoshua Loelle, Patrick Pang & Poppy Pisciotta. We will miss them and their families and trust that they are very happy in their new schools / homes.

From time to time, we like to acknowledge students who have done something amazing outside of school. Year 2 student, Cooper, is an avid fishing enthusiast and recently caught an incredible tuna! Congratulations Cooper - if School Sport Victoria ever introduces a fishing category, I suspect you will be first selected! (What an awesome photo!!!)

My best wishes to all members of the school community for a safe and happy Easter and holiday period. For those travelling, whether locally, interstate or overseas, please travel safely. We look forward to seeing everyone at the commencement of Term 2 on Monday April 15th.

Kind regards,

Duncan
