Senior School

5/6 JDZ & 5/6 BW

WHAT'S ON

What a fantastic few weeks it has been in Senior School! The 5/6 students have been working hard to complete their projects for the term. We wrapped up Interschool Sport for soccer and netball with the Lightning Premiership and had many other exciting Sports events for students to participate in, including our AFL Clinics and Division Cross Country. The Buddies program has continued, in preparation for presenting their picture books, the Grade 5/6s did storytime with the Preps.

IN OUR LEARNING

Here's a little recap of what we've been covering in the classroom:

Reading: We are creating texts in response to our novel, Fish in a Tree, and presenting them as a newsletter for the fictional school in the story.

Writing: Students are writing procedural narratives and will present these to the Prep students at the end of this week.

Maths: We are revising number skills, with a focus on column strategies for multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.

Humanities: In our Business & Economics unit, students are now developing their own business, considering which resources are needs versus wants, and ensuring they stay within budget.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Division Cross Country – We were so proud of the students who represented our school at the Division Cross Country. Reaching this level takes dedication and resilience, with many of our runners training during their own time and showing a strong commitment to their goals. Regardless of where they placed, all students demonstrated incredible effort and sportsmanship on the day. Congratulations to our runners for pushing themselves and representing our school with pride!

AFL Clinics – Our students enjoyed an exciting day of footy fun during the AFL clinics. They worked on key skills such as kicking and handballing, with expert coaching helping them build confidence and coordination. It was great to see students getting active, trying something new, and cheering each other on!

Lightning Premiership – Students competed in the Lightning Premiership, with teams representing our school in soccer and netball. The day was packed with energy, teamwork, and friendly competition. Both teams played with great enthusiasm, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and perseverance.

SWPBS Launch - We began introducing SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support) lessons across the school. As part of this, we launched our new behaviour matrix, which outlines clear expectations for students in all areas of the school. These lessons help us create a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where everyone can thrive. We look forward to building on this strong foundation in the coming weeks!
