This Week At OOPS

Kate, our school counsellor, came into our class and read us a story about a boy who thinks himself invisible.  The children discussed and explored strategies of kindness, empathy as well as the power of inclusion.  The children learnt that small acts of kindness make a big difference to the lives of others, especially those who may feel unseen or excluded.  To reach out to those who need a friend makes a huge impact on making others feel connected.

Chicken News

The mornings in Year 3 are a flutter with the chickens getting visits before the bell.

Every week we weigh the chickens.  There is a lot of maths in the process: adding, averaging, division and subtraction.  This week the average weight gain for the chickens was 42 grams.  A much bigger container was needed to weigh the feathery ones.

The chickens went on their first excursion this week.  They had a play in the sun in their future pen.  Chips roamed around checking the newbies and remained quite curious to these noisy babies.  We hope to get the chicks in by the holidays!

Prep Discovery

This week in Prep, we have learnt the sounds /w/ and /x/, learnt about doubling numbers and met some exciting community helpers. Our Discovery prompts were:

English: What can you discover about the w-w-water?

Maths: What numbers can you double with the butterflies?

Collage: What can you draw on the w-w-window?

Construction: What can you build with the boxes?

Dramatic Play: What happens at an X-ray?

Fine Motor: Can you put the pom poms into the w-w-whisk? Can you get them out again?

This week's Inspectors were Oliver (PNT), Isaac (PMB), Emilie (PBF). All photos were what our inspectors captured in our Discovery sessions.
