Library Matters

Term 2 has been a busy one in the library! This Term we’ve had an average 104 students in the library each break, and we’ve loaned out a whopping 1355 books so far this year. We’ve added 279 new books to our collection, with the vast majority being requested by our students. Check out some of our latest additions!

Our top borrowers have read an amazing 346 books between them, and the competition to be our Top Reader in 2025 is heating up with only one book separating our top two contenders:

  • Thomas B, Year 10: 45 books

  • Natalie K, Year 8: 38 books

  • Levi DW, Year 10: 36 books

  • Olivia B, Year 8

  • Iyla D, Year 8

  • Zara G, Year 8

  • Josh G, Year 8

On Friday of Week 8, Term 2, we held an afternoon to reward the students who successfully completed last year’s challenge. During this afternoon we celebrated our love of books by discussing our favourites, indulging in a bit of reading, and watching the film adaptation of Cressida Cowell’s book, How To Train Your Dragon.

If your child is interested in participating in this year’s challenge, they can update their reading records online or visit Miss Lysaught in the library during their breaks.

Our school library is also a hub of social activity. During the breaks we run a variety of different clubs and activities, such as our popular Nintendo Switch Club and our Dungeons and Dragons Club.

To encourage our students to think critically and creatively while developing their emotional intelligence, at the end of Term 1 the library hosted one of our regular Nerdvana Game Days. During this day, a variety of students from different year groups played a selection of games such as Chess, Dungeons and Dragons, and Settlers of Catan. The Uno competition was fierce, with over 10 competitors and lasting over an hour! It was wonderful to see students making friends across the different year groups!

We’re also gearing up for our annual Book Week celebrations! We’ll once again be running our popular Cosplay Competition, where we encourage students to dress up as their favourite book characters.

Last year’s competition was super successful, so we’re looking forward to seeing the fantastic costumes our students produce this year!
