Year 10 Macarthur Area Careers Expo (MACE)
On Thursday, 5 June, Year 10 students attended the Macarthur Area Careers Expo at the Minto Indoor Sports Centre. This important annual event brings together students from Years 10 to 12 across government and non-government schools in the Macarthur region, providing direct access to a broad range of exhibitors, including employers, industry representatives, training organisations, TAFE, and universities.
The expo gave students valuable insights into real-world career options, with a strong focus on apprenticeships, traineeships, and pathways into various trades and industries. Students had the chance to speak directly with employers about current and future job opportunities, learn about the skills in demand, and discover how vocational training can lead to fulfilling and successful careers. In addition, students explored post-school study options and discussed with university representatives the HSC subjects required for their preferred degree. This experience plays a vital role in helping students make informed decisions towards 2026.
Year 11 Visit the Western Sydney Careers Expo
Year 11 students recently attended the Western Sydney Careers Expo at Sydney Olympic Park, where they explored a wide range of post-school options. They had the opportunity to speak with representatives from universities, TAFE colleges, training providers, and organisations offering apprenticeships, cadetships, and employment opportunities.
There were numerous industries represented at the expo offering apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities that students could explore and apply for, providing direct pathways into the workforce.
Students also accessed valuable HSC resources, youth programs, tutoring services, and advice on international exchange and GAP year options.
EHS Students Get a Head Start on Their Careers with TAFE YES Program
Four EHS students recently took part in the TAFE NSW Youth Engagement Strategy (YES) Program—an exciting opportunity that gives students aged 15 and over hands-on experience in a range of industries. Held one day a week over 6–10 weeks, these taster courses help students explore different career paths and gain real-world skills to guide their future decisions.
Our students made the most of this experience by participating in practical lessons across industries such as Real Estate, Floristry, Beauty Services, and Medical Administration. Each student also earned a TAFE Statement of Attainment, giving them a valuable head start as they begin planning for life after school.
Congratulations to Lucy, Angela, Allyssa and Bianca.
White Card Qualification Completed – Building Foundations for the Future!
Thirteen students successfully completed their White Card qualification this week in preparation for upcoming work experience and to support their applications for apprenticeships in their chosen industries.
The White Card is a mandatory requirement for anyone wishing to work in the construction industry. The course provides essential knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) and ensures students understand the legislative requirements before beginning any tasks on a worksite.
Expression of interest emails for upcoming White Card courses will be sent to parents during Term 3.
Fast Forward Program
Twenty enthusiastic Year 10 students attended their first excursion to Western Sydney University for 2025 — an exciting and inspiring experience! The University Day gave students a valuable glimpse into campus life and what university has to offer, including information on courses and guidance on HSC subject selection that can support future applications to WSU. The program is designed to boost student confidence and academic readiness while increasing awareness of post-school education options. It also highlights the lifelong benefits of learning and the diverse career pathways a university degree can open up.
Work Experience- Gaining skills in the real world of work
Many students have engaged in work experience this semester. Work experience provides real life experience in the industry or occupation of their choice. Students can be inspired and motivated by the people they meet and benefit from connecting with employers. Students must be at least 14 years old to participate.
Year 10 students are encouraged to participate in work experience at least once through the year. Students can try multiple occupations over the year to give them a good sense of what they may and may not be interested in. Year 9 students are encouraged to participate in work experience from Term 3. Students who attend work experience are placed on school business; therefore the absence does not affect their attendance.
Interested students can visit the careers office for further information and the Student Placement Forms. Students will also complete the My Work Experience Modules that need to be completed prior to attending work experience. https://www.myworkexperience.com.au/auth/login
How to find work experience
The internet is a major resource to help a student in securing work experience. Students can email or call workplaces to ask whether they provide work experience or students are also encouraged to walk up to business’ and introduce themselves and ask to speak to the manager. Alternatively, parents and other adults around the student may be able to suggest workplaces that they know take students for work experience.
What do students gain from work experience?
explore first-hand the world of work
decide if they like the job or industry
gain job-ready skills and knowledge
practice general and industry-specific skills
