Exploring the Past, Sharing Our Learning
As Term 2 came to a close, our Grade 3 students began an exciting new journey into the world of Ancient Civilisations. To kick off our learning, we travelled into the city (on public transport—an exciting first for many!) to visit the Melbourne Museum. Students explored ancient artefacts and the Bunjilaka First Nations exhibition, sparking lots of wonderings and big questions about the past and how it connects to our world today.
Back at school, we were lucky to meet two much-loved Australian authors and illustrators—Leigh Hobbs and Anh Do—who inspired us to think creatively about how stories are shared through words and pictures. We finished Term 2 with a fun and hands-on STEAM Day, where students participated in exciting challenges and team-based activities.
Term 3 began with Wellbeing Week, where we focused on reconnecting with our classmates, revisiting our class agreements and setting ourselves up for a positive term ahead. One highlight was our excursion to the Elwood Children’s Centre, where our Grade 3 students became the teachers, guiding kinder children in how to use Make-Do construction kits to build a robot. It was a wonderful chance to build confidence, show leadership and connect with younger learners.
We’ve also started rehearsals for the school musical! Our Grade 3 students are learning their song, Fish are Friends, Not Food, and are enjoying being part of the performance preparations. We’ve also welcomed a group of international students from China, who have quickly become part of our Grade 3 community.
Now, we’re getting ready to share our learning in a very special way. As part of this unit, Grade 3 students are taking action by creating their own Live Museum of Ancient Civilisations—designing artefacts, writing information texts, and preparing interactive displays to show what they’ve learned.
We would love for you to come and visit! Please join us on Friday the 8th of August, for the Grade 3 Assembly. We will then invite parents into our classrooms afterwards to explore the museum we’ve created. We can’t wait to share our learning with you.
