Celebrating Pentecost: A Reminder of Unity in Diversity

As we recently marked the feast of Pentecost in the Church calendar, we are reminded of a powerful moment in scripture that speaks directly to our shared life as a multi-faith, multicultural Catholic school community.

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability… Parthians, Medes, Elamites… Cretans and Arabs — in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.”

 Acts 2:4,11

At Pentecost, God chose to send the Holy Spirit, not in a single voice or language, but through many, embracing every culture, every tongue. Pentecost is not just a celebration of the Church's birth, but a profound sign of God’s desire to gather people of all nations into one loving, Spirit-filled family.

In the life and teachings of Jesus, we see this same radical inclusion. He welcomed the outsider, crossed cultural boundaries, and taught us that every person is created in the image of God. As a Catholic school, we carry this mission forward — honouring and celebrating the cultural backgrounds of every student and family in our community.

Whether it is through our multicultural events, shared prayers, or simply the daily act of learning and growing together, we are building what Jesus began: a community where difference is not just accepted, but celebrated as a gift from God.

This Pentecost, may we continue to be led by the Spirit to be people of welcome, peace, and unity, living examples of the love of Christ in a richly diverse world.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
