With Semester 1 heading towards an end, we celebrate an excellent beginning to the school year.

Our Year 7 cohort have settled in well and made themselves into valuable members of our learning community.  The transition to secondary school is anxiety provoking and tough, but these kids have shown that they can come together successfully as a cohort and overcome the challenges thrown at them.  As I write this, they are on their last night of Year 7 camp – an experience that has been overwhelmingly positive for them all.

Our Year 10 cohort enjoyed a successful two weeks of work experience earlier this year.  This has resulted in offers of apprenticeship, full time work, part time work and future direction for so many.  Our students always return from work experienced more focused and ready to take on the world.  This time is no different.

Year 8 showed the strongest growth in the school in terms of our Learning Behaviour Updates just recently.  Their focus and tenacity is demonstrated continuously and recognised by our teachers. They are well on a path to great success.

We look forward to our Year 9 cohort showing off their Projects next week.  These demonstrate a significant amount of learning and dedication, and the night is often a great success.  In the meantime, with all students recently having been surveyed on their attitudes and perceptions of school, we are seeing early indicators of significant growth in positivity and enthusiasm in our Year 9s.

Our staff are working hard at the moment on lifting the bar of expectations for our students.  We know that we have some incredible minds and enthusiastic learners, and Morwell Campus is committed to ensuring that all of our students are well supported to succeed in ambitious goals and targets in their learning.  This is hard work, but is the core work of a teacher.  We have more teaching staff on the way to join our Morwell Campus team in Semester 2, strengthening the education that we are able to provide and ensuring that all of our students have consistent teachers in front of the class.  In the middle of a state-wide teacher shortage, Morwell Campus (and the College as a whole) is well staffed and set to provide the best possible education for our students.

All of this makes for an exciting exit to Semester 1 and gives us lots to look forward to in Semester 2!
