Parent Reading Information Evening

All parents and carers are warmly invited to our Parent Reading Information Evening on

Wednesday 30 July from 7:00 to 8:00PM, led by our Literacy Leader, Biljana. This session will offer valuable insight into how reading is taught at SMCM and the research-based practices that guide our approach. A flyer was shared with families towards the end of Term 2, providing registration details through a return slip or QR code (link).

The teaching of reading at SMCM is aligned with the Science of Reading, a body of research that explains how students best learn to read. Over the past 18 months, our staff have undertaken ongoing professional development in this area to ensure that our instructional practices are grounded in evidence and consistent across year levels. The evening will explore the key components of reading instruction at our school and how these support every child to become a confident, capable reader.

This presentation follows the strong turnout and encouraging feedback from our Mathematics Information Evening last term. We are committed to continuing these sessions as a way to strengthen the partnership between families and the school. We hope you can join us for what promises to be an informative and engaging evening.

If you have misplaced your flyer, copies can be collected from the front desk.

We want to use this opportunity to express our gratitude to our parent helpers who assisted in contacting approximately 1000 decodable books, which will be added to our literacy resource toolbox to support our evidence-based pedagogical practices here at SMCM. An enormous effort! Thank you so much.

Golden Children

Three more Golden Children - Congratulations Leon from Year 4 Optimism, Evan from Year 3 Courage and Johaan from Year 3 Courage - They now have 4 Golden Children!

It is Evan's first time being a Golden Child. He worked hard and showed perseverance and determination to share his knowledge in all Stem Masters. Evan only started at SMCM in Term 2 last year and this is a wonderful accomplishment in such a short space of time.

Leon continues to impress and he has excellent general knowledge of many areas. He earned his Golden Child in 2023, 2024 and now again in 2025.

It is Johaan's first time being a Golden Child. He worked hard and showed perseverance and determination to share his knowledge in all Stem Masters. Johaan only started at SMCM in Term 3 last year and this is a wonderful accomplishment in such a short space of time.

Congratulations to the boys on such a wonderful achievement.

(To earn the title of Golden Child, students must earn masters in and be able to name facts about: The planets, rainbows, bones, the solar system, clouds, the mouth, birds, towers, lightning and thunder and all 118 elements

of the Periodic Table)
