Last week, I received a thank you from our Colombian PenPals, expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with our Year 5 students. As their school year has now come to an end, it's a great moment to reflect on what a valuable experience this has been. The exchange offered our students a unique chance to deepen their intercultural understanding, enhance their written communication skills, and form meaningful connections with peers from a part of the world we don’t often engage with. We’re excited to continue building on this partnership and to explore new opportunities for enriching, cross-cultural learning in the future.
Our PenPals shared a video of their city, and photos of their end of year ceremony that I will share with the Year 5s in an upcoming class.
The STEM Room will be open again this Friday at 2nd Break for all students. Here is some of the fun that occurred last Friday.
Students in Years 5 and 6 have kicked off their STEM Aviation project, diving into the science behind flight and electric motors. They've been investigating how magnets play a key role in making these motors spin—an important step in preparing for their model planes. Alongside their scientific discoveries, students have also been honing their measurement skills, carefully cutting out the components needed for construction.
Here is 5L beginning to cut out the parts for their model planes.
