3-way Conference Curriculum Day
Monday 16th June
As you would be aware we are providing a whole day on Monday 16th June for opportunities for our families to meet with their class teachers at our 3-way conference meetings. The set times are from 11am – 7pm. Hopefully everyone has booked by now, if not you can still book a meeting with your child’s class teacher via Compass. If you would like to book an alternative timeslot before school or on another day, please contact your child’s class teacher via email.
Your child’s class report will be available for reading via Compass on Friday 27th June. Teachers invest considerable time in preparing student reports to ensure they accurately reflect your child’s social, emotional, and academic development. Student reports are just one aspect of our comprehensive reporting process at Billanook. Our approach also includes termly newsletters outlining our teaching plans, termly learning goals that incorporate student input, 3-way conferences where children can share their learning progress with you, and semester reports. Additionally, some families participate in termly student support group meetings for children with specific learning or social/emotional needs.
As mentioned earlier this term, we have slightly altered our student reports. The Learning Goals section will not be in the student report, however our children and their teachers will still be completing short and long-term goals. The learning goals will be shared at the 3-way conference meeting. To ensure that we are consistently reporting student progress to our families, the same assessment pieces will be used to discuss student learning growth across the school. The only exception are the Foundation classes as they have slightly different assessment requirements.
We will also be offering an additional 3-way conference evening at the end of Term 3. This is the first time we have offered a Term 3 date. We are hoping that by meeting with families on a more regular basis we can provide more effective and timely feedback on student progress.
Planning Week
Tuesday 17th June – Friday 20th June
All classes will have a full day of specialist classes next week to provide an opportunity for their teachers to spend the day together to plan for Term 3. Planning days are essential for teachers to access their student assessment data to inform their planning of the term’s teaching and learning. Teachers are required to create a term plan that is then broken down into weekly plans.
Laney Day
Tuesday 17th June
Laney, who is in Foundation this year is unwell and is unable to come to school at the moment. On Tuesday 17th June, we will be holding a fundraiser for Laney by encouraging children to wear "fun" clothes to school in exchange for a gold coin donation. FDC, along with Laney's siblings Neara and Boston, are aiming to raise enough money to buy Laney something special to help keep her occupied as she is unable to come to school. Children can come to school wearing as much or as little "fun" colours as they like!
We will also have Camp Quality at school. They will be presenting their puppet show across our school in 2 sessions. Their fun and interactive puppet show helps schools create supportive communities for any child impacted by a serious illness.
The Great Coin Line Dress Up Day
It was wonderful to see our Literacy Leaders organise a fundraiser earlier this week. The girls came up with the idea of holding a competition of who could make the longest line out of coins. It was a busy recess as the Literacy Leaders ran from class to class measuring the lines.
The winning class was FDC with a whopping 42 metre line of coins. They were closely followed by 6A and 5/6C. FDC will be treated to a hot chips lunch. All proceeds will go towards providing some comfortable seating for the library.

Michael Puddy
