Parent Information Evening

As part of our Core Wellbeing program, Applecross SHS aims to run a range of parent information evenings on wellbeing-related themes that align with the content taught in our Core program. We are very excited to kick the year off with our first evening, presented by Justin Robinson, who has run several parent information evenings for Applecross over recent years. This first presentation for 2026 is titled 'Raising Kids Who Worry Well', and will be held on Tuesday, 24 February, 5:30 pm in the Applecross SHS Performing Arts Centre. It is a free event; however, due to seating constraints, we do require attendees to book a ticket in advance. The link to book is below.

Raising Kids Who Worry Well - a parent evening for calm, courage and connection.

Every child worries. The aim isn’t to switch it off, but to help them worry well rather than worry wild. In this upbeat, practical parent session, you’ll learn a shared language that supports what students are learning at school. We’ll walk through the W.O.R.R.Y. WELL Framework - Welcome the Worry, Open the Conversation, Reflect and Recognise, Regulate Together, Yes to Action - with everyday scripts you can use tonight.

Why it matters: children who learn to worry well get better at sitting with discomfort, naming feelings, choosing helpful actions, and asking for support. That shows up as steadier nerves before tests and performances, clearer problem-solving with friends, and a stronger sense of “I can handle this”.

Why parents love it: you gain a simple playbook for tricky moments, earlier and more open chats with your child, fewer blow-ups, and confidence about when to handle things at home, and when to escalate for extra help. You’ll leave with do-it-today tools, a fridge-friendly summary, and renewed hope that small steps build brave.

School Transitions

Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means your children are growing up!

However, transitioning is an ongoing process. It can continue long after students have entered their new environment and may encounter difficulties at a number of different stages. These stressors may appear as anxiety and frustration and result in negative or disruptive behaviours. Such behaviours can become problematic making the transitioning process even more difficult for children and parents.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn practical strategies to assist your child during the transition process and reduce stress and anxiety levels.
