Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive, collaborative relationships between parents and teachers significantly boost student academic success and emotional well-being. Establishing this partnership involves consistent communication, mutual respect, and focusing on shared goals (e.g., child's growth), treating teachers as allies rather than obstacles, and proactively discussing both strengths and challenges.

Key Strategies for Positivity and Collaboration:

  • Proactive Communication: Initiate contact early, share positive news frequently (not just concerns), and maintain open dialogue.
  • Leverage Mutual Knowledge: Teachers know the academic context, but parents know the child's unique personality and needs. Collaborate by sharing both perspectives.
  • Focus on Solutions: When issues arise, avoid blaming. Instead, use a team approach to create a plan for support.
  • Show Appreciation: Express gratitude to teachers for their efforts to build rapport and trust.
  • Engage with the School: Attend meetings, conferences, and school events to stay connected to your child's learning environment.
