After The Bell

Our new OSHC provider, After The Bell, is settling in and sessions are up and running. Each week After The Bell publishes the upcoming events for the week ahead, and we post this in the newsletter and in Tina’s Friday Compass post.

We caught up with a parent who has been using the OSHC service at SPS for many years, and she told us that After The Bell are sending updates of her child’s after school care experiences, most sessions. She really appreciates the engagement and activities that her child is experiencing. Weekly cooking has been a really fun activity for the students as well.

We encourage our school community to consider using Out of School Hours Care for their family when it is needed. We are really pleased to be partnering with them.

The Importance of Regular School Attendance

At Scoresby Primary School, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers, and enjoying all the benefits that brings.  Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school, but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.

If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to your child’s teacher or one of our school principals about getting support.  We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via Compass, or leave a message for the school office, so we can work together to support them.

For more information about the importance of everyday attendance, see Attendance and Missing School

Remember, Every Day Counts.

New Attendance Policy

The Department of Education (DE) has brought in a new attendance policy for children who need time off school to attend service provider sessions - some of which could be Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy. These absences are now to be recorded on our system with a new code made to acknowledge these circumstances. Sue has been formalising these commitments with families and making attendance plans accordingly. If you have regular appointments for your children during school time that your child needs to attend, please come and speak with Sue and we will make an attendance plan for your child.

Term 1 Assemblies

Assemblies in 2026 will be held fortnightly on Fridays.  Assemblies will be held in the school hall, unless otherwise notified. Assemblies are a lovely community time, led by our student leaders, where we celebrate student successes through awards, and our classes get to showcase their learning.

Parents are always welcome to attend assembly at school. Please note, in the timetable below, orange blocks delineate different times for assembly.

"Getting To Know You" Parent-Teacher Interviews

Our "Getting to Know You" interviews will be held on Wednesday 4th March from 2.00pm until 6.00pm, and will be held in your child’s classroom. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher and tell them about your child.

Compass bookings for the interviews will open up early next week.

Sheridan and Mrs Hartley have started a lunchtime Knitting Club on Mondays 11.40am-12.20pm. We are looking for knitters to come in and help us teach the craft of knitting to very keen and enthusiastic students.

If you are able to join us, please contact Sue via email susan.hartley@education.vic.gov.au  You need a current Working with Children Check, lots of enthusiasm, and a little bit of patience.

Curriculum Contributions

Thank you to the many school families who have paid the 2026 Curriculum Contributions. Your support is greatly appreciated. These contributions go towards your child’s:

  • classroom stationery and equipment

  • school digital learning subscriptions (Maths and English tests, Get Epic online library)

  • provisioning the specialist subjects

  • classroom photocopying

If you have not yet paid your child’s 2026 Curriculum Contribution - $285 - we would greatly appreciate payment ASAP.

Also, a big thank you to the many families who have generously contributed to the ‘Other Contributions’ listed to support the school. These payments assist us with our library and literacy books, first aid supplies, online communication systems, and building and grounds improvements.

If you have any questions regarding the contributions, please do not hesitate to contact our Business Manager, Tina Clark.

School Council Elections

Information regarding the 2026 School Council election process will be sent to families soon. School Council is an extremely vital part of the school and has many functions such as approving external contracts, policies, school camps and overseeing school finance.

Please look out for this if you think you may be interested in nominating or being nominated. Information will include a timeline and summary of the role of School Council.
