From the Leadership Team

Welcome back to the 2026 school year
It’s wonderful to welcome everyone back for another exciting school year! As we walked through our vibrant learning spaces, we were delighted to see how settled and enthusiastic our students are upon their return. The start of term has been marked by positivity, resilience, and an inspiring sense of community—even in the midst of this extraordinary heatwave!
Our students have shown incredible strength and adaptability, making a fantastic start despite these challenging conditions. We are continuously impressed by their ability to stay focused, support each other, and demonstrate resilience day after day. They are truly living our value of “be resilient”—a quality we are so proud to nurture at Modbury School.
It’s also fantastic to witness the positive relationships already blossoming in each classroom. New friendships are being built, and teachers and students are connecting in meaningful ways, reflecting our “connect” and “be kind” values. Classrooms are lively with curiosity and creativity, as learners embrace challenges together, find innovative solutions and “create” with confidence.
We encourage everyone—students, staff, and families—to keep these school values front and centre: Connect, Challenge, Create, Be kind, Be safe, Be resilient. Together, we make Modbury School a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for all.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Here’s to a fantastic and fulfilling year ahead!
Site Learning Plan
Our Site Learning Plan is focused on creating a positive, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Our overarching focus in 2026 will be on Effective Learners, which we believe, for our context, provides the solid foundation for everything we do. At Modbury School, our focus is on developing effective learners who are curious, engaged, and adaptable. We prioritise creating learning environments where students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate, and challenge themselves. By nurturing these skills, we empower our students to become confident problem-solvers prepared for lifelong success. We want our school community to be one where both our students and staff can grow, learn and feel connected. We have 3 goals we are working towards achieving in 2026 in literacy, numeracy and effective learners.
Term Overviews
Teachers will post their Term 1 Curriculum Overviews to Class Dojo on Thursday to keep our families informed of the learning occurring for their children in their classrooms. Specialist teacher curriculum overviews will also be posted to Class Dojo for our families.
Our Learning Spaces
Calm, clutter-free learning spaces play a vital role in promoting student engagement and wellbeing, allowing learners to focus, feel comfortable, and collaborate effectively. Our educators have created inviting, well-organised environments that truly support concentration and creativity—just as you can see in the wonderful classroom photos shared below. We are proud of these thoughtfully arranged spaces and the dedication of our staff in making Modbury School a welcoming place to learn and grow every day.
School Uniform
We expect our students at Modbury School P-6 to be in school uniform and wear it with pride. Our uniform is available to purchase via Qkr!.
Please look over our Uniform Policy, as ratified by our Governing Council in 2024 to ensure your child is wearing our correct uniform.
Sun Smart School
We are pleased to advise that Modbury School P-6 has been recognised with Cancer Council of SA as a registered Sun Smart School.
A SunSmart school has policy and practices in place that reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer amongst students and staff.
To achieve SunSmart recognition with Cancer Council SA, schools need to be implementing a sun protection policy during terms 1, 3 and 4 (or from 1 August through to 30 April) and when the UV is 3 and above at other times. At Modbury School P-6 we wear hats all year round, and have sunscreen available in clasrooms and have scheduled sunscreen application times throughout the day.
Schools can join the SunSmart Schools and be recognised as SunSmart when they:
- have a comprehensive sun protection policy that meets a minimum national standard covering the areas of curriculum, behaviour and the environment
- provide, or are working towards, adequate shade facilities
- ensure children and staff are well protected when the UV level is 3 and above, particularly during peak UV times of the day
- teach, role model and reinforce positive sun protection behaviours
- agree to undertake three-yearly policy reviews with Cancer Council SA to ensure policy and practice stay up to date with the national standard.
What are the benefits of being recognised as Sun Smart?
Some of the key benefits for SunSmart Schools include:
- demonstrating their commitment to the health and wellbeing of their students through signage and Cancer Council SA endorsement of their policy and practice
- better awareness and support of sun protection strategies in school community
- free teaching resources
- keeping up to date with the latest information and recommended practice
- special offers including 25% discount on sunscreen purchases.
Right to Disconnect
Supporting Staff Wellbeing: The Right to Disconnect
At Modbury School P-6, we are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance for all staff members. In line with recent guidelines, we encourage staff to exercise their right to disconnect outside of work hours. This means staff are not expected to respond to work-related emails, messages, or phone calls beyond their scheduled working time, except in urgent circumstances.
We appreciate and respect our staff's dedication and acknowledge the importance of personal time for rest and rejuvenation. Together, we continue to prioritise wellbeing and a positive workplace culture.
AGM and Open Afternoon
We will hold an Open Afternoon on Tuesday 17th February (Week 4). This is a great opportunity for your child to be the leader of their learning area and show you around the school. You may also like to visit our Specialist teachers working on this day - Lauren Fox (Japanese in Room 14) and Kristie Talbot (Technologies in our STEM space), as well as Preschool with Miss Rose, and see their learning spaces. We are looking forward to seeing you on this day. You can also visit our library space in our Open Space Unit (OSU). Students will be able to collect an 'Open Afternoon Passport' to collect stamps as they visit learning spaces. Completed passports will receive a Zooper Dooper iceblock and then go into our lucky raffle to win a school hat.
Open Afternoon will be followed by our Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 5.00-5.30 pm where we will look at the overview of 2025 and elect our members for the 2026 Governing Council.
Parent Connections
Parent Connections are in Week 6 and will be a great way for our families to connect with their child's classroom teacher. Please read through the information below, as teachers will be asking all parents/caregivers the following information to build the successful foundations for each of our students. Our goal is to meet with every family - please look out for the Booking Information via Class Dojo in the coming weeks.
Volunteer Training Sessions
We are excited to announce upcoming volunteer training sessions at Modbury School P-6! Volunteering in our school community is a rewarding experience that greatly benefits our students. By dedicating your time and skills, you can make a significant impact on their learning journey and personal development. Our Term 1 Volunteer training sessions on Thursday 5/2 and Thursday 2/4, will equip you with the necessary tools and knowledge to support our students effectively.
