Level 3 & 4
Week 2, Term 1
We are so excited for the year ahead and have been really pleased with the way that students have begun the year! Thank you for your support of your children as they navigate the change that a new year brings.
Getting to Know You Interviews
Student interviews will be held on Wednesday 4 February and Thursday 5 February from 3:50-6:00pm. These meetings are a valuable opportunity for us to get to know your child and work together to support their learning and wellbeing. If you have not yet booked a time, please log into Sentral as soon as possible to select from the available interview times.
Grade Three/Four Information Session
We will be holding an online Information Session on Wednesday 11 February at 5.00pm. An email with the link to join will be sent in the week leading up to the session. If you are unable to attend, a recording will be shared with families following the session.
Topics to be covered include communication, curriculum, student wellbeing, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG), NAPLAN, camps, and a range of general housekeeping items.
Important!!
On Wednesday 4th February, Issy (our technician) will need ALL Grade 3 iPads at school to complete some important updates for NAPLAN.
✏️Stationary
Please ensure any missing stationary/uniform items are brought to school as soon as possible including art smocks and hats. Students without hats will be playing under the oak tree for sun safety.

🪴Kitchen Garden
We have the privilege of participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program, which is run by Dimi and supported by our community. Our students love the program and benefit immensely from the many positive ways it supports their health and wellbeing as well as building practical life skills. Each session our students create and enjoy a meal that they prepare using elements from our own kitchen garden and participate in gardening and chicken keeping activities. Each year a support system of the adults in our students lives volunteer in this space and bring valuable knowledge and skills as well as and fun to the program. You do not have to be a pro chef or the best cook in the family, the program is all about learning together and sharing the joy of fresh food. Volunteering entails helping to cook, clean up and working in the garden. If you would like to get involved in cooking, gardening or both please follow the link below to find out more!
Our focus next week will continue to be focusing on settling in and learning classroom routines, school expectations and our shared culture. We will spend time learning our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) expectations. This includes things like greeting each other in the morning, lining up calmly, playing safely outside, showing kindness to others and developing the habits that help us to “Be Kind, Be Safe, Be a Learner.” As they get to know new classmates, students will take part in social games and activities designed to build positive connections with their peers. Taking time to establish these routines and relationships helps set the foundation for a smooth and successful year.
How you can Support at Home
As students get into the swing of things we would expect them to be tired each evening, gently reintroducing evening reading is encouraged. In grades 3 and 4 we expect students to work towards 20 minutes or more of independent reading however, in the early weeks this might be some independent and some shared reading which are both beneficial.
📱Ipads
We will be completing iPad agreements and contracts on Monday this week, once they have completed the agreements including the parent agreement, we will let students know that they can bring their iPads to school for use in the classroom
On Wednesday 4th February, Issy (our technician) will need all Grade 3 iPads at school to complete some important updates.
A friendly reminder that students do need to have their own headphones at school and to check your child’s iPad to ensure they have adequate space on their iPad for their learning this year.
✏️Leadership Roles
Students in Grades 3 and 4 have the option to apply for a leadership position. Green Team focuses on environmental issues and projects within the school and care for plants within the classroom, ICT Representatives help others with iPads, check the iPad cabinet each day and our Student Voice leaders have responsibilities for SWPBS, tallying up tokens and helping students to brainstorm and vote on rewards. Students who would like to have a role will need to prepare a short speech about why they would be a good leader in that role which they will present to their class community. It is important that they present their own ideas and in their own words however, to support at home you might help them re-read and edit their work and be a volunteer audience for them to practice in front of.
