INFORMATION

Getting to Know You Interviews

Student interviews will be held on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th February. These meetings are a valuable opportunity for us to get to know your child and work together to support their learning and wellbeing. We encourage you to book an interview through Sentral if you have not done so.

Prep Information Session

We will be holding a Prep Information Session on Tuesday 10th February at 5.30pm in the BER. We will send a link with the recording after the session if you are unable to attend.

Topics we will discuss include communication, curriculum, student wellbeing, iPads, home reading and a few general 'housekeeping' items, as well as helping to manage expectations for the year ahead.

Primary School Nursing Program

Last week, you should have received an envelope from the Primary School Nursing Program with important information. If you have not received your envelope, please see your classroom teacher or use the QR code on the poster below to complete the consent form for your child.

Please remember that the program is optional, but if you would like your child to participate, the consent form must be submitted by Friday 6th February.

CURRICULUM

In these early weeks of school, our priority is to help students feel a strong sense of belonging while establishing our SWPBS values: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be a Learner. We will begin each day this week with play-based activities to help students ease gently into the day.

Some of the SWPBS expectations we are learning include greeting each other in the morning, entering the classroom independently and calmly, moving safely around the classroom, playing safely outside, showing kindness to others and developing the habits that help us to Be a Learner, such as demonstrating respectful listening behaviours. Taking time to build these routines and relationships helps lay the foundation for a smooth and successful year ahead.

Once students have had time to settle and transition into school routines, we will begin the full curriculum.

📝 💚Literature and SWPBS

We will be learning about our SWPBS values through carefully chosen texts that reinforce Be a Learner and Be Kind.

To support Be a Learner, we will read Try Your Best and Forget the Rest, which encourages children to persevere and give things a go. Later in the week, we will read A Wrinkled Heart to deepen our understanding of Be Kind and how our words and actions can affect others.

🏡 What can you do at home?

• Talk about effort and perseverance: Encourage your child to 'try their best' at everyday tasks and celebrate their effort, not just the result.

• Model kindness: Demonstrate kind words and actions at home and discuss how they make others feel.

• Read together: Share books that explore kindness, learning, and positive behaviours, and talk about the lessons from the stories.

🔢  Maths

We will be exploring the concept of Patterns. Students will practise copying, continuing and creating two-part patterns using movements, colours and objects. Learning will be hands-on and play-based, giving children plenty of opportunities to explore and experiment with patterns in a fun and engaging way.

🏡  What can you do at home?

• Spot patterns in everyday life by looking for patterns in tiles or nature.

• Create patterns with objects like toys, blocks or kitchen items to make and continue simple colour or shape patterns.

• Move and dance to patterns by clapping, tapping, or making repeating movements to explore patterns through actions and sounds.

🌏 CBL - Community

Students will create an About Me display for the classroom, which will help us get to know each other and celebrate the unique qualities and interests of every student in the class.
