Week 2, Term 1
In the classroom this week...
All students will be collaging the front cover of their work book, using various papers and craft items. The focus will be on complete coverage, overlapping materials and choosing items that represent their interests and passions.
*If you have any left over clear contact from covering your child's book's over the years, we would love to use it to protect these gorgeous workbook designs!
**Please note Kristy is on LSL this week, and Miss Dixon will be replacing her.

Follow the link below if your child is in Prep, Grade 1 or Grade 2 and you are available to be a parent helper in the Art room.
Please only sign up for ONE art session to allow other parents the chance to volunteer, and ensure you have selected the correct Grade that your child is in.

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate for younger siblings in the art session.
Young Archie Portrait Competition – Get Creative at Home!
Looking for a fun artistic challenge? Families are invited to participate in the Young Archie Portrait Competition — a wonderful opportunity for kids to create a portrait of someone special and enter it in their own time! The competition is run by the Art Gallery of New South Wales and celebrates young creativity across Australia.
What it’s all about:
One artwork per entrant, created on paper (A4 to A3), unframed and unmounted. You can use paint, pencils, pastels, collage — whatever inspires you!
Important: This is a family-led and out-of-school activity — the school will not be submitting entries on your behalf. If your child chooses to enter, you’ll submit directly to the Art Gallery following the official entry instructions.
Key 2026 dates:
Winners announced 4 July 2026
For full details and how to enter, visit the official page:🔗 https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/art/prizes/young-archie/enter/#what-you-need-to-know-for-schools
Whether it’s a thoughtful sketch or a bold painting, we hope lots of our young artists enjoy giving it a go — happy creating!
In the classroom...
This week, students will take part in their first or second Performing Arts session of the year. Lessons will focus on establishing routines and expectations, building confidence and connections, and creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Through music, drama and dance, students will play games, sing songs, work collaboratively and practise safe and respectful participation in the Performing Arts room. These sessions connect to our school’s CBL Big Idea of Community and support students to feel confident and connected as they begin the year.
Victorian State School Spectacular (Grade 5/6)
Thank you to families who submitted an Expression of Interest for their child. Information outlining the next steps in the process will be emailed early this week, so please keep an eye out. If you missed the EOI deadline last week, please contact the office as soon as possible so we can do our best to accommodate you in this process.
As students begin their new year level, our Physical Education lessons have focused on setting strong foundations for a positive and successful year ahead. Classes have been exploring what makes a great PE lesson by discussing what it looks like, sounds like and feels like. Through these conversations, students have shared ideas about how to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, included and supported. This helps ensure that all students can participate confidently, enjoy being active and get the most out of each lesson.
Students in the upper year levels have also taken part in discussions around key PE “themes” for the year. Our main themes are Be Kind, Be Respectful, and Buy In / Have a Go. These themes encourage positive behaviour, teamwork, resilience and a willingness to try new challenges, even when something feels difficult at first.
This time spent reflecting and setting shared expectations has been an important step in establishing a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment in PE. It sets a clear and positive tone for the year ahead and supports all students to feel confident, valued and motivated to engage in physical activity.
