Opening School Mass

On Thursday the 12th of February we celebrated our Opening School Mass for the 2026 school year. After Mass our Year 6 student leaders were badged and our Year 6 cohort were commissioned as leaders of our school. We pray that our Year 6 children are guided by faith, kindness and service as they lead Catherine McAuley this year.

Real Talk Australia

On Friday the 13th of February, our school welcomed Hannah and John from Real Talk Australia to talk to our Year 5 and 6 students. During sessions our students discussed topics including Self Image, Impact of the Media, Friendships and Body Language. After a mixed session, boys and girls were then separated to learn about Puberty and the changes that happen to their body throughout this time. These seminars were of great value to the learning that our Year 5 and 6 students will be undertaking in Personal Development lessons this year.

Some responses about the Seminar were:

Deacon - "I thought that it was nice that we got to talk about puberty so we know what will happen to us".

Edie - "I really liked how boys and girls were separated so we could talk about different changes we will experience".

Shrove Tuesday

Yesterday our Mission Leaders and Mini-Vinnies team served pancakes to our students to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally during Lent, Christians would give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat. Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them which is why many Christians still eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. The pancakes were delicious and we thank Mrs Garnon for organising this wonderful, yummy treaty for our school.

Ash Wednesday Mass and Liturgy

Today our Years 3 - 6 students attended a combined school's Mass with St. Mary's school to mark Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday signifies the first day of Lent. On Ash Wednesday we receive the mark of the ashes. The ashes are the blessed burnt palms from the previous Palm Sunday. They are a symbol of repentance and are placed on the forehead of Catholics around the world. The ashes are a physical sign that Lent has begun.

Regardless of where we live in the world, over the forty-day period of Lent we are called to examine and renew our spiritual life. Lent is a time of prayer, almsgiving and fasting. These are the 3 pillars of Lent. Please enjoy some photos from our Infants Ash Wednesday Liturgy.

Project Compassion

Ash Wednesday also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Project Compassion 2026 reminds us that the good we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come.

With your support, Caritas Australia has been able to assist communities around the world through income generation, water and sanitation, food security, education and disaster risk reduction programs.

Please give generously to Caritas Australia this Lenten season and help vulnerable people around the world, now and for all future generations. Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow.

Project Compassion boxes have been sent home for each family in Lent. Please return these boxes in Week 10 of this term.
