Sustainability at the Fair!

Our school’s Twilight fair is fast approaching, and we want to make our biggest fundraising event as sustainable as possible.

To help us to reduce waste please consider bringing your own cutlery, plates and cups/mugs. It would be wonderful if you could take any rubbish home with you.

The Sustainability Group Leaders are working on posters for our bins to help to make sure the correct rubbish goes into the correct bin.

HOW DOES FOOD CLEAN UP AT THE FAIR WORK?

This year at the Fair, we will be using a ‘Wash Against Waste’ station and reusable plates, bowls and cutlery to help reduce single-use coffee cups and food containers.

After sampling some of the delicious food that will be on offer at the Multicultural Food stands, fete goers can head to the Wash Station or one of our Waste Stations. There, they scrape any leftovers into the compost and place the used items in rinsing buckets.

The plates will then be sorted, run through the dishwasher, dried, and returned to the market stalls to be used again, and again, and again (and again).

BLIND BAG BIZZARE STALL

Sustainability will also have a fun new stall called ‘Blind Bag Bizarre’.  Fete goers can spin the wheel to win a ‘blind bag’ full of recycled goodies like toys, pokemon cards, erasers, stickers etc PLUS an entry to the Sustainability Group Raffle!

GREEN WASTE PETITION

At Sustainability there will also be the opportunity for parents to sign the petition for Wales Street to get Darebin council get their very own Green Waste bin. This is a campaign led by the Sustainability group leaders, and they would very much love to have your support.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

To make the stall and the ‘Wash Against Waste’ station a success, we will need more parent volunteers. A big thank you to the parents who have volunteered so far.

We also need donations for the Blind Bag Bizarre, so clean out those toy cupboards, empty your shelves of novelty knick-knacks and send all your tiny trinkets to the donations sections of the shed!

Together we can reduce the landfill our Fair produces, and Wales Street will be one step closer to the Resource Smart School’s Waste star.

Yours in sustainability,

Toby Marquette
