And just like that......we are already past the halfway mark of the first term. The second half of the term promises to be just as busy and rewarding, and I look forward to all that we will achieve together.
The 8th March is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is “Balance The Scales”.
This theme highlights the urgent need to ensure fair, inclusive, and accessible justice for every woman and girl.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the role of women across our school and education more broadly. We are fortunate to have so many strong women and girls at Wales Street leading from the front to ensure we are all playing our role to unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all.
CURRICULUM DAY – Tuesday 10 March (Pupil Free)
Monday 9 March is a public holiday, and Tuesday 10 March will be a pupil-free day. On this day, our teachers will participate in professional learning on First Aid & Health and Wellbeing.
We hope families enjoy this long weekend, and that students have the chance to play, rest, and recharge, ready to give their best in the final four weeks of term.
Students who need care on the pupil-free day can book into TheirCare.
Curriculum Days and Early Finish times for 2026
In the interests of forward planning, here are the dates for the Curriculum Days for the remainder of 2026.
- Term 2: Friday May 22nd
- Term 3: Friday August 14th
- Term 4: Monday 2nd November (Professional Practice Day)
We also have early finish times at the end of each term as follows:
- Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 @ 2:30pm
- Term 4 @ 1:00pm
Emergency Management at WSPS
Throughout the year, we are required to conduct emergency management drills as part of our school Emergency Management Plan (EMP). This will include a range of drills for different purposes including fire drills, lockdown drills, evacuation drills etc. We endeavour to complete our fire drills in week 7 of every term which is next week. We will let the community know via Compass prior to the drills being conducted.
Naplan
Over the coming weeks, students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. This assessment provides a snapshot of student learning in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one measure of student progress. At school, teachers use many forms of assessment throughout the year to understand each student’s learning and plan next steps.
We encourage students to simply try their best and approach the assessment with confidence. Ensuring children have a good night’s sleep and arrive at school feeling calm and ready will help them do their best.
School Council
Thank you to those who have nominated to be a part of the 2026 WSPS School Council. We warmly welcome Ariyana Gant-Bragge as a new parent member, returning members of school council and Toby Marquette as a new teacher representative.

The school is extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding group of parents who put themselves forward to be part of council. The willingness to contribute time, expertise and energy to Wales Street is deeply appreciated.
