Kids Corner

The “Kids’ Corner” section of our school newsletter provides the opportunity for the children to showcase their talents or communicate something special.

This fortnight, I have asked some of our new Year 3 to 6 students, what they think of our school’s new English program. Below are their reflections:

  • Sunnia (Year 3) – I think it is very good that we can read different books, and we can also learn different things such as how to pronounce and spell a word, which we then transfer to our writing.

  • Aishira (Year 3) – you can learn lots of different meanings of words such as antonyms, we can better understand the book. The book, Matilda, is very nice and interesting.

  • Jamie (Year 4) it is a good opportunity for students to comprehend the book, and it makes us want to read more. It adds lots of key words that we are learning about for the first time.

  • Jackson (Year 4) – it is good because I like the workbooks, there are verbs, phrases and even adverbial phrases. It is more interesting than doing the old worksheets and it is fun to read the book because the book is very interesting.

  • Arnav (Year 5) – it encourages people to read more because we learn about literature and literacy, we complete workbooks that enable us to understand the text better.

  • Kiyan (Year 5) – I think the book War Horse is really good and interesting. This year the program is better than last year because we learn new words and we are encouraged to do more reading. Reading is really fun because we get to read with our friends and teacher reads too. We stop in between pages to see what words are new to us, so we learn about new words too.

  • Dehan (Year 6) – I like it because you can read to the whole class and share ideas. Sharing ideas makes us think more deeper about the book and we learn how to be a more confident reader.

  • Alisha (Year 6) – I like the new English program, usually when you pick up a book and start reading, you lose interest but now when you read the novel as a class, your interests broaden into other concepts. In terms of learning, we learn how to be more confident when reading out loud, finding new words and then using the words in our writing pieces.

It is quite evident that the children are enjoying the new program and I look forward to providing additional information shortly.
