Classroom Teams News

Foundation News:
Our Prep students have been busy learning their first set of letter sounds – s, a, t, p, i and n (SATPIN). Through fun, hands-on activities, students are practising saying the sounds, listening for them in words, and beginning to blend sounds together. This is an exciting milestone in their reading journey and a wonderful foundation for future literacy learning!
Grade 1:
The Grade 1 students have been revising their classroom routines and discussing what helps us learn. We have been discussing different ways to remain focused in class and strategies that help us to keep trying our best.
In Numeracy, we are learning to represent two-digit numbers on ten-frames and write the numeral to match. Students are practising correctly identifying and labelling the numeral for a given ten-frame representation. They are also working on showing the correct number of counters on a ten-frame to match a number.
Grade 2:
Over the past two weeks, students have been engaged in meaningful learning across all subject areas.
In Mathematics, students consolidated their understanding of place value by building, ordering and expanding three- and four-digit numbers, and writing them in word form. We also began a new unit on Measurement, focusing on telling the time, with students enjoying hands-on games and activities to represent analogue and digital times.
In Literacy, students explored hybrid texts, combining factual information with creative storytelling. They wrote engaging pieces about birds, including kookaburras, blending facts with writing from the bird’s perspective. We also began a biography book study of South with the Seabirds by Jess McGeachin, learning about Mary Gillham and her important environmental work.
A highlight of the fortnight was Year 2 Sport. Students showed teamwork and great sportsmanship during ‘Rob the Nest’ and ‘All or Nothing’, while developing their coordination, precision and collaboration skills.
Reminder:
Year 2 will be visiting Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park on Monday 30th March to support our learning about animals and habitats. Students will take part in hands-on activities as “naturalists” for the day. Please log onto Xuno to review the details, give consent and complete payment.
Grade 3:
Over the past few weeks, our Year 3 students have been working hard across several learning areas.
In Literacy, students have been focusing on narrative writing, creating engaging stories with clear beginnings, problems, and endings. They have also been learning to write persuasive pieces, sharing their opinions and supporting them with reasons and examples.
In Numeracy, students have been learning about place value and developing their addition and subtraction strategies.
In Sport, students have been practising skipping, developing their ball skills, and strengthening their teamwork through a variety of games and activities.
It has been great to see their enthusiasm and effort in all areas of learning.
Grade 4:
Over the past few weeks, our Year 4 students have been actively engaged in a range of learning experiences across the curriculum.
In Literacy, students have been exploring Greek myths, building their understanding through reading, analysing and comprehending these rich and engaging texts.
In Numeracy, they have been developing their knowledge of fractions, with a focus on converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.
In Grade 4 Sport, students have been enhancing their teamwork skills through a variety of collaborative games and activities.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, persistence and effort they are demonstrating across all areas of their learning.
Grade 5/6:
Buddies 2026 – Grade 6s are thrilled to announce the Buddies Program for this year!
The Grade 6 students (along with a few Grade 5s) have been paired with a Prep buddy in the same House. We cannot wait to build strong friendships, step up as leaders, and be positive role models for our Prep buddies throughout the year.
We’ll be sharing lots of fun activities and special events together, and we are especially excited to meet our buddy for the first time on Wednesday 4th March, when we’ll enjoy a snack together to officially kick off our buddies journey!
