Student Leadership

Hello, my name is Hemal Sharma and I am the college captain for 2026. I am super excited to be working with the ECSC community both within and outside of school. Being a College Captain is something that I have always envisioned to become and now finally being able to fulfil the steps of those who were before me, I beam with pride.

For me “leadership” is an ongoing journey rather than a state of perfection. I wish to get to know the students of ECSC and build pure and warm connections to help ensure our school is functioning at its fullest potential. I am keen to see what 2026 has to offer and how we, college captains, as a team can elevate the experience.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with any suggestions, thoughts or concerns, I am always happy to have a conversation!

Hi everyone, I’m Issy and I look forward to being one of your College Captains for 2026. I would firstly like to extend my gratitude to the ECSC faculty for entrusting me with this position. I have the intention to represent our student body and be as transparent of a leader as I can be. Leadership to me isn’t about how pronounced or polished someone is, but rather how approachable you are. I'm committed to creating a school culture where everyone feels included and represented.

I hope if you see me in or around school, you don’t hesitate to say Hi and come talk to me about any suggestions, questions or concerns. I’m always happy to chat.

The only promise I can leave you with is that I’ll always listen and where possible work with you on finding positive outcomes.

Hi everyone! My name is Zeenat Walia, and I’m truly honoured and excited to be your College Captain for 2026. Leadership to me is about integrity, and service. It’s not just about holding a title, but about setting a good example and being someone others feel comfortable approaching. As an individual who is reliable, friendly and motivated, I’m passionate about creating a school environment where everyone feels valued, included, and proud to belong at ECSC.

Throughout the year, I look forward to working closely with our principals and leadership team to support school goals and continue striving for growth academically and socially. At the same time, I’m excited about strengthening student voices ensuring that the ideas and perspectives of ECSC students help shape the year ahead and more to come.

Please feel free to email me with suggestions, questions or anything else at all! I’m always open to have a chat and connect.

Hi, my name is Lauren Abdulrahman and I'm grateful to be one of the school vice captains for 2026. I want to start by thanking Maria and all the teachers who have trusted me with this opportunity, I’m grateful to be a part of a team that genuinely cares about improving our school.

As vice-captain, my goal this year is to strengthen the student voice and encourage environmental responsibility across our school community. I want students to feel confident that their ideas are not only listened to but acted on. When students feel heard, I believe that real change becomes possible. I see that we could create a cleaner, more sustainable school through participation in environmental initiatives and by working together to take care of our learning and work place.

One of the main reasons I applied to be a part of the school captain team was to represent VM’s ideas. I’ve always felt that VM has a strong perspective on things and I wanted to bring that into the decision that was going to be made this year. Being able to sit in meetings and share how certain choices might affect VM students is something I really care about. I want us to have a clear space to express our ideas, and a chance to contribute to the direction our school is heading. This role gives me the opportunity to speak up for VM, highlight what matters to us and make sure that we are a part of the conversations that shape our school.

To me leadership isn’t about having a title or a badge. It's about showing real responsibility and action as well as being someone who others can rely on. This year I'm hoping for a genuine, approachable and focused leadership to make a positive impact.

This being my final year of schooling I want to contribute to something that will be passed on to other school captains and students in coming years. I hope to help build a school culture when students feel valued, respected and encouraged to take initiative, and to leave an imprint of a strong sense of community and responsibility that will prove to us as captains that we have helped create something meaningful for students in the future

If you ever see me around the school please feel comfortable to come up and ask me questions, and share ideas.

My name is Syed Hyder Alam, and as I begin my final year of high school, I’m excited to represent our students, strengthen our community, and help make 2026 a memorable year for all of us. Stepping into the role of School Vice Captain for Edgars Creek Secondary College is something I’m incredibly proud of, and it still feels a little surreal.

I’m currently studying Economics, Mathematical Methods, General Maths, Biology (early VCE), Chemistry and EAL, a combination that keeps me busy, challenged, and constantly learning. Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the SRC, where I learned how powerful the student voice can be when we use it to shape real change. I’ve also represented our school in cricket (Thrice), badminton, and table tennis, and I’ve taken part in leadership conferences that pushed me to grow beyond my comfort zone. One of my favourite experiences has been helping organise school events like the Cultural Showcase, where our diversity and creativity truly shine.

If there’s one thing I care deeply about, it’s making sure every student feels heard. I’m passionate about academics, sport, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves. I’m known for being easy going and respectful, the kind of person who gets along with everyone  even if I do have a reputation for being a little lazy at times. But I think that’s part of what makes me relatable: I’m not perfect, and I don’t pretend to be. I’m just someone who wants to do right by the people around me.

This year, my goal is simple: to help build a school culture where student ideas matter, where we support each other, and where we leave behind a legacy we’re proud of. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me, and I’m looking forward to working with staff, students, and the leadership team to make this year something special.

Thank you,

Syed Hyder Alam
