Middle School Report

Year 7 – Beginnings
Our Year 7 students have made an extremely positive start to the year. Year 7 Leadership Team (Michael, Ben and Neha) have been thrilled to see the majority of students arriving to class on time and prepared with the correct learning materials, demonstrating that they are already building strong habits for success. Their organisation and readiness to learn have allowed lessons to begin smoothly and with purpose. Pleasingly, there has also been a strong sense of respect across the cohort both towards staff and one another which has contributed to a calm, inclusive and productive learning environment. We are very proud of the way our Year 7s have begun their secondary school journey.
As we approach the upcoming NAPLAN testing period, we would like to remind families that testing will take place from March 11th to March 17th. It is important that students come to school each day with a fully charged device, a water bottle and a complete pencil case to ensure they are well prepared. Being organised and ready will help students feel calm and confident during the testing sessions. We encourage all students to get a good night’s sleep and approach the week with a positive mindset.
We are excited to share that several Year 7 excursions are coming up, including our Adventure Day Camp at Lake Dewar, which is always a fantastic opportunity for students to build teamwork, resilience and positive peer connections outside the classroom. We are also exploring additional excursions such as trips to Bounce and Ice skating, which will further support social development and cohort bonding. More detailed information, including permission forms and payment details, will be shared via Compass and posted on noticeboards in the coming weeks.
Year 8 – Community
The Year 8 cohort has made a positive and energetic start to 2026, settling into new routines and continuing to build strong foundations for learning and wellbeing. Year 8 is a year focused on developing independence, strengthening positive relationships, and building consistent learning habits within our school community. Many students have embraced their new classes and new teachers well, showing resilience and a positive attitude as they settle into the year. The Year 8 team and I look forward to supporting students as they continue to grow in confidence, responsibility, and engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
Throughout the year, students will engage in a range of learning experiences designed to challenge and inspire them. In Food Technology, students have had the opportunity to use the school kitchens for the first time and have done an amazing job demonstrating safe and responsible behaviours while learning new practical skills. In Science, students have been excited to use microscopes for the first time as they explore different types of cells, developing curiosity and confidence with scientific equipment and processes. Outside the classroom, many students have also embraced the Friday morning soccer program, showing teamwork, commitment, and positive school spirit. Next term, students will also take on a new challenge through an ice skating excursion, encouraging perseverance, confidence, and positive risk-taking in a supportive environment.
A strong emphasis will continue to be placed on organisation, respectful collaboration, and consistent learning routines as students build the skills needed for success in the middle years. Assemblies, wellbeing initiatives, and year-level events provide further opportunities for students to connect with one another and contribute positively to our school culture.
We look forward to a positive and rewarding year and are excited to see every Year 8 student continue to grow, achieve, and make the most of the opportunities that 2026 will bring.
Year 9 – Innovations
We are thrilled to welcome our Year 9 students to 2026! Year 9 is an exciting and important stage of school, a year of greater independence, leadership opportunities, and new experiences. Brianna, Lachlan and I look forward to seeing our students continue to grow academically and take one step closer to senior school.
One of the major highlights of the year will be City Experience Week. This immersive program will see students engaging with the city as a classroom, building independence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while navigating challenges with the Melbourne CBD as their backdrop. From collaborative tasks to practical life skills, City Experience Week is a memorable and integral part of the Year 9 journey.
Students will also have the opportunity to explore their interests through a range of engaging electives. Year 9 electives allow students to pursue their passions, try new subjects, and develop specialised skills beyond the core curriculum. Whether in the arts, technology, physical education, or other hands-on subjects, electives provide valuable opportunities for creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.
2026 is shaping up to be a memorable and exciting year, and we can’t wait to see what every student achieves by the end of the year!
