Year 12 Valentine’s Day Fundraising Success
Despite landing on Friday the 13th, our Year 12 students brought nothing but good fortune to the school with a hugely successful Valentine’s Day Sausage Sizzle.
Held at lunchtime, the event created a lively atmosphere as students and staff gathered to support the Year 12 cohort. Sausages sold quickly, and the buzz around the BBQ made for a fun and memorable afternoon. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to enjoy a bite and show their support.
In the lead‑up to Valentine’s Day, Year 12 students also ran a special rose stall. Students could purchase roses for friends and loved ones, which were then delivered during class time. The deliveries sparked plenty of excitement across the school, with lots of surprised smiles and heartfelt moments shared throughout the day.
Both the sausage sizzle and the rose stall were organised and run by our dedicated Year 12 students, who demonstrated impressive teamwork, organisation and school spirit. All funds raised will go towards supporting the Year 12 Formal later this year.
We extend our sincere thanks to all students, staff and families who supported these initiatives. Your generosity and enthusiasm help make important milestones—like the Year 12 Formal—possible.
Well done, Year 12, on a fantastic fundraising effort!

Supporting our Seniors
Today, the SOS students had the privilege of meeting Valmai, a truly remarkable and warm-hearted woman who, despite being bedridden, radiates strength, humour and wisdom. From the moment we entered her room, she welcomed us with genuine interest and kindness, creating a space where everyone felt comfortable to speak and share.
She told us stories from her life in Queensland, describing her years on the farm with a sense of pride and nostalgia. Hearing her talk about the land, the animals and the routines of farm life gave us a glimpse into a world very different from our own. She also spoke lovingly about her grandchildren, and it was clear how much joy they bring her. Her face lit up every time she mentioned them, and it reminded us how important family connections can be.
What made the visit even more special was the way she encouraged us to open up about our own lives. She listened carefully as we shared our dreams for the future, our experiences at school and the things we hope to achieve. She didn’t just listen—she responded with thoughtful advice about being safe, responsible and making good choices. Her stories from the past weren’t just memories; they were lessons shaped by experience, offered to us with generosity.
Spending time with Valmai reminded us how valuable it is to connect with people from different generations. Even though she can no longer move around freely, her spirit, her stories and her wisdom continue to make a powerful impact. The visit left us feeling grateful, inspired and more aware of the importance of kindness, resilience and listening to the voices of those who came before us.
Connecting Culture Through Food: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students Cook with Native Ingredients
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students recently took part in a hands‑on cooking experience using native plants, delivered in partnership with The Hills Shire Council. Through this workshop, students explored the deep connection between food, land and people, learning that Country is alive, sustaining and continually providing.
The session introduced students to sustainable Dharug food practices and highlighted the links between traditional foods, wellbeing and caring for Country. Students learned about the many uses of lemon myrtle — from grinding it into powder to incorporating it into biscuits and chocolate bliss balls — sparking meaningful conversations about culture, history and respect for place.
We are grateful to The Hills Shire Council for supporting this valuable learning experience and look forward to continuing our involvement in this program.
Media Elective
Students in this course will focus primarily on building skills in writing screenplays using the latest online platforms, cinematography, editing, production, sound and sound mixing, practical ways to finance the films, and distribution to various competitions and events.
Students will hopefully gain confidence in utilising these skills across various mediums and for a range of purposes. They will learn skills used in audio-visual media, gain business and leadership skills, and knowledge of how the film industry works. Regardless of their chosen specialisation, this broad base of skills will make students attractive to employers and establish them to better take control of a freelance career. There will be an emphasis on creating quality content for a broad range of applications.

Principal’s Morning Tea Celebrates Student Achievement
This week’s Principal’s Morning Tea was a wonderful celebration of effort, character, and achievement across our school community. Students who received Merit Awards were invited to join our principal for a relaxed morning tea, recognising their hard work and the positive contributions they make each day. It was a great opportunity to acknowledge their dedication and to encourage all students to keep striving for excellence. Congratulations to all our award recipients — we’re proud of you.
