Careers

My name is Jackie Hicks, and I am the new Careers Advisor at the school. I look forward to getting to know our students and supporting them as they plan and prepare for their future pathways beyond school.

Students are welcome to book a time to meet with me to discuss career options, study pathways, and post-school plans. A booking sheet is located outside the Careers Office.

Please note that appointments cannot be made during scheduled class time. Students should book during study periods, breaks, or other non-teaching times.

Year 10 and 11 – Work Experience

Information regarding Work Experience will be released shortly.

Career pathway decisions are among the most significant choices students make during their schooling. Parents and carers play an important role in supporting young people to become informed and confident planners of their future education, training, and employment pathways.

Kellyville High School will continue to offer a Flexible Work Experience model, allowing students to select a placement week that suits both the student and host employer, provided assessment tasks are not missed.

Key points:

  • Students must self-source a suitable workplace
  • Placement duration: One week
  • Paper forms will be distributed during Connect lessons this term
  • Electronic forms and email templates will be available via the Class of 2028 – Careers Google Classroom
  •

Families are encouraged to support students in exploring opportunities and connecting with potential workplace networks.

Year 11 – TAFE & School-Based Apprenticeships

We have many students who have successfully commenced School-Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships or are undertaking TAFE (TVET) courses. These programs provide valuable pathways that contribute to HSC attainment and future employment opportunities.

Important Reminders

Students must:

  • scan out at the front office before leaving school
  • travel directly to TAFE
  • attend all classes for the full scheduled hours.

Regular attendance is essential. Appointments or holidays should not be scheduled during TAFE time.

Students are required to attend TAFE after school exams. If an exam clashes, attend the exam first, then travel to TAFE.

Assessment is continuous and competency based. Missed assessments may not be rescheduled. Warning letters may be issued for unexplained absences, incomplete work, or missed assessments.

If absent due to illness, students must email their TAFE teacher, notify the school, and provide a signed parent/carer note.

Please note that after 2 warning letters, a student’s TVET enrolment may be at risk, which can impact HSC completion.

For absences or emergencies, contact the school on (02) 8824 5955

White Card Training

Students planning to complete work experience or work placement on a construction site must hold a White Card (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry). This certification is a mandatory requirement for anyone entering a construction worksite in Australia and ensures students understand basic workplace health and safety obligations.

We offer White Card training here at school and subsidise the cost for our students. The Term 1 course is now fully booked; however, students can register their interest in courses scheduled in Terms 2, 3, or 4 using this link White Card EOI (2026)
