Principal's Message

Library Upgrade!

It has been an exciting week in the library, with the installation of brand new furniture for our students to enjoy. These new soft furnishings are flexible in their arrangement, creating a calm and relaxing space for browsing and reading. We have also cleared the shading from the external windows to bring in more natural light. It has been fantastic to see students engaging with our collection, enjoying the chance to immerse themselves in a good book. It is important to note this upgrade was fully funded by our community's voluntary contributions. We thank you for your generosity, it enables us to continually improve our student's experience at school.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lois Knight, who has just completed her final term as BNPS school council president. Lois has been an active member of the BNPS community for many years, and school council president for the last six years. She has brought energy, enthusiasm and a continual drive to improve our school. Her support of community members, staff and students has been a model for us all to follow. Thank you Lois, our school is a better place as a result of your efforts.

Thank you Carl

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Carl Duke, who at the Parents & Friends committee AGM last week stepped down as president. Carl has served as P&F president for the passed four years, having been instrumental in opening our school back up to the community after the pandemic, holding hallmark annual events such as the Autumn picnic, trivia nights, election day BBQs, sports days, school discos and of course the upcoming school fete. Community engagement is strong at BNPS, and the role of Carl and the P&F is significant in this work.

BNPS Centenary

This year Brunswick North Primary School is celebrating our centenary. In 1926 the school opened on our current site, having moved here from another location. In Term 4 we will mark this event by exploring and celebrating the last 100 years of education at BNPS.

If you would like to help us prepare, we would really appreciate your assistance. You might be interested in history, have some experience in storytelling or just want to get involved, all are welcome to help out. If you are interested, contact me at adam.dunemann@education.vic.gov.au.

Easing into Adolescence - Free resources for families of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years

The Department of Education has launched an Easing into adolescence webpage for families of students aged 10 to 14 (Grade 5 to Year 8).

The webpage has information and strategies you can use to help ease your child into adolescence and secondary school. These include:

a guide to emotion coaching. Staff from The University of Melbourne’s Tuning in to Teens Kids program developed the guidance.
how to support your adolescent with their studies and more generally. Parenting expert and clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller helped develop this resource.
