Our Prep students have explored what it means to be a Star Artist. Students designed Star Artist hats by creating simple patterns using colours and shapes. A photo of the students and their amazing hats is posted on the Prep N and Prep L Dojo pages.

As a whole school, we have been adding key actions required to be a Star Artist. We have created a table together.

How to be a Star Artist

Stay Safe Try Your Best Act Responsibly Respect yourself and others
  • Chairs tucked in
  • Walk in the art room
  • Scissors stay at the table
  • Wash your hands
  • Do not enter the art cupboard
  • Have a growth mindset
  • Mistakes are ok
  • Follow the steps one at a time
  • Keep trying
  • Look after the equipment
  • Return equipment to the correct spot
  • Ask the teacher to go to the toilet
  • Name and Grade on all art work
  • Gentle hands
  • Hand up to talk
  • Leave the room ready for the next class
  • Do not touch other peoples art work
  • Help others

We investigated the value of respect this week by exploring the beautiful Indigenous text ‘Respect’ written by Aunty Fay Stewart Muir and Sue Lawson and illustrated by Lisa Kennedy.

Students created oil pastel artworks inspired by the illustrations to tell a story about respect using the art elements colour, shape, line and pattern. We made many connections between our U R Strong Program, our school's STAR values and this text.

Have a fabulous week!
