Senior School Sports News

GSV Sport
Term 1 continues to build momentum for our GSV teams. Our Intermediate Volleyball A team are currently undefeated and playing some thrilling volleyball in the process!
Additionally, the Junior A Softball team is undefeated and sitting on top of the ladder, whilst our Senior A Softball, Inter A Softball, Junior D Tennis and Inter D Tennis are all fighting for GSV Finals spaces.
House Cross-Country
St Catherine's hosted the House Cross-Country event at Kooyong Park. This was a truly wonderful day of running, friendship, camaraderie and competition. The Melbourne weather blessed us with nothing but sunshine for the morning, which put everyone in high spirits. Thank you to the Sports Auxiliary for their ongoing support and supply of icypoles and fruit for the athletes on the day.
Although it was a tight contest between the Houses, Langley Templeton proved too quick for their competitors.
Congratulations to our winners of the Year Level races and our feature medals, the Blue Ribbon & Junior Flyer.

- Junior Flyer (Fastest Year 7): Ingrid Tan (6m 56s)

All three students showed great effort and represented the School with pride. We are very proud of them and wish them the best of luck at Nationals and for the rest of the season.
We were thrilled to see 62 students compete at the GSV Triathlon on 22 February at Altona Foreshore, our biggest team yet. It was fantastic to see the numbers double from last year, with so many new Year 7 students taking part. We are really proud of everyone who competed, showing great discipline, courage, and teamwork throughout the event.
Rowing
It has been a big few weeks of rowing at St Catherine's. Across the past fortnight our squads have attended three regattas and there have been more then 45 hours of training at the boat sheds. A few highlights of the past few regattas include:
Nagambie Regatta
The Senior First VIII progressed through their heat in 2nd place before finishing 5th in the A Final, while the Senior Second VIII also advanced into the A Final, demonstrating excellent depth across the senior squad. The U21 Eight entries gained valuable race experience, recording 4th and 5th place finishes in their heats before placing 6th in the Final. In the quad and four, the crews showed resilience, with the School Quad placing 4th in the C Final and the School Coxed Four racing solidly to finish 6th in their Final.
Victorian Junior States Championships
Across the program, St Catherine’s secured six finals wins spanning the D, C, and B Finals, highlighting both depth and competitiveness within the squad. Every junior crew demonstrated strong progression into their finals, with all boats recording faster times than in their heats. This collective lift is a testament to the athletes’ dedication, their commitment to continuous improvement, and their ability to effectively implement coaching feedback under race pressure.
Australian Henley Regatta
St Catherine’s Senior and Intermediate crews delivered an outstanding set of performances at the Henley Regatta. The Senior Squad led the way with a Division 1 VIII victory and strong results across all senior boats.
The Intermediates demonstrated promising progression and competitiveness in both the Eight and Quad throughout the event. The depth shown across all crews reflects the athletes’ commitment and the strength of the program heading into the championship phase of the season.
We wish the Seniors and Intermediates all the best of luck for their events at the Victorian State Championships this weekend. With two weeks before the Head of the Schoolgirls’ Regatta, the squad are working hard, refining technique and adjusting their race plans. We cannot wait to watch St Catherine’s dominate on the Barwon in a few weeks' time.
