Exploring Career Pathways: Opportunities for Every Student

When St Catherine’s students take their final steps beyond the Heyington Gates, they embark confidently into a range of carefully considered future pathways. While most students are pursuing direct university entry, including early offers, others have chosen VET (Vocational Education and Training) to develop practical and industry-based skills, with a select few elected to take a GAP year as boarding assistants. All choices reflect each student’s chosen direction, a path that reflects her passions and strengths.

As the Class of 2025 leaves St Catherine’s, they do so at a time when opportunities are broader and more diverse than ever, both domestically and internationally. Over the past five years, careers and tertiary pathways have evolved significantly, offering students greater flexibility and access than ever before. Early offer programs provide conditional admission into university or TAFE prior to the release of final ATAR results, helping to reduce end-of-year stress. These offers are typically based on Year 11 results, school recommendations, and personal experiences, with final academic conditions required for confirmation (e.g., meeting English study score requirements for course entry).

Tertiary institutions have also expanded alternative entry routes into bachelor degrees. Many students begin their tertiary journey through a diploma or associate degree before transferring into a bachelor program, often without extending the overall study timeline. These structured pathways support students in aligning their studies with their individual goals.

Beginning in the early years, identifying strengths and passions, guided subject selections, one to one meetings, careers at St Catherine’s is a tailor made process. Students build towards their future pathways in an intentional, supported approach through career education, industry partnerships, university visits and opportunities to engage with super-curriculars (an academic pursuit that extends a student’s learning beyond the school curriculum, focusing on deepening knowledge in a chosen subject). With the rapidly changing world of work, St Catherine’s remains current, committed to guiding young women to make informed, confident decisions about their futures.
