What's Happening In Primary

News and Information from Primary

Feeling Connected at DCS

At DCS, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels known, valued, and connected. Recess and lunchtime provide wonderful opportunities for students to build friendships—not only within their own classes but also across different year levels. This year, we are excited to offer an even wider range of activities and spaces to support meaningful connection for all students.

Across our school grounds, students have access to playgrounds, basketball courts, downball courts, the Gaga pit, swings, a large oval, outdoor seating with chairs and tables, our farm, vegetable garden, and school animals. These spaces encourage play, exploration, and community-building in many different ways.

We also recognise that some students find the outdoor environment challenging. To support their needs, we are expanding supervised and indoor options that provide a calmer, more structured alternative.

Library

The Library is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the second half of lunch. Students are welcome to come in and read, or enjoy a peaceful environment away from the hustle and bustle.

Wetland Warriors

Mrs Bellchambers is running Wetland Warriors in the Wetlands area every Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to strong interest, this program will rotate between year levels each term.

In Term 1, the program will be offered to our Year 3/4 students, who will help care for and learn within this beautiful natural space.

Monday Chess Club (Years 1–6)

On Mondays, Chess Club will run for students in Years 1 to 6, led by Mr Dance and a visiting chess coach. This will be held in the 3/4 Dance classroom and offers a fantastic opportunity for students to develop strategic thinking while connecting with peers.

Friday Puzzle Club (Years 3–6)

Beginning this term, Puzzle Club will take place every Friday for students in Years 3 to 6. The group will be facilitated by Miss Chloe Smith from our Finance Team, with Mr Evans helping the program get started in the early weeks. Puzzle Club is great for students who enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and a calm, structured setting.

Athletics Carnival

Our Primary Athletics Carnival is being held on Wednesday 25th February at the Don Oval. The Don Oval (which is directly beside our school STEM Centre and Secondary basketball court) will be transformed into a vibrant arena where budding athletes showcase their skills and sportsmanship. The Primary Athletics Carnival is not just about winning ribbons; it is a celebration of every child's effort, dedication, passion for sports and team spirit.

The Athletics Carnival will commence from 9.10am, immediately following our Worship Wednesday assembly in the Jiloa Centre.  All parents and friends are warmly invited to join us for Worship Wednesday before making your way over to the Don oval.

Please click here to see the program for the day (please note that event times are approximate).

From sprinting to distance, shot-put to turbo javelin, our carnival offers a diverse range of events tailored to accommodate various interests and abilities. Whether your child is a seasoned sprinter or a newcomer eager to explore new avenues, there's something for everyone to participate in and enjoy.

As parents, your support plays a crucial role in making the Athletics Carnival a memorable experience for your child. Whether it is cheering from the sidelines, volunteering as a helper or simply offering words of encouragement, your involvement goes a long way in nurturing their confidence and enthusiasm for sports.

Get ready to cheer! Bring along a camp chair and your travel mug for a delicious hot drink and let's make the Primary Athletics Carnival a day to remember—one filled with laughter, cheers and unforgettable moments that showcases the heart of DCS!
