Welcome to Term One
A very special welcome to the new students and families joining our Sacred Heart community this year. We understand that the beginning of a school year can feel like a big adjustment for many families, whether it is your first time starting school or another new beginning. Please know that our team is deeply committed to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn.
If your child is finding the morning transition challenging, please reach out to their classroom teacher. We are always happy to work in partnership with families to provide additional support and develop strategies that help your child feel confident and settled at the start of the day.
Term One Respectful Relationships at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart, we believe every member of our community has the right to feel respected, valued and included. Our Respectful Relationships program recognises that all children, at every age and stage encounter challenges as they grow and learn.
Through this program, students are explicitly taught age-appropriate social and emotional skills that support their wellbeing, relationships and personal development. Weekly Respectful Relationships (RRRR) lessons are facilitated by your child’s classroom teacher and form an important part of our learning program.
- Emotional Literacy
Students develop the ability to be aware of, understand and use information about the emotional states of themselves and others.
- Personal and Cultural Strengths
Students develop a vocabulary to help them recognise and understand strengths and positive qualities in themselves and others. They identify the values and strengths they have learnt from their families, culture, and role models, and the way this guidance helps them to treat others with respect.
Mental Health First Aid with Dr Billy Garvey
Early Signs, Early Support: Mental Health First Aid for Children and Teens
Date: Tuesday 24th March (presented in partnership with Camp Australia)
In this insightful talk, Dr Billy Garvey explores the principles of Mental Health First Aid, equipping parents and professionals with essential skills to recognise and respond to early signs of mental health challenges in children and teens. The session emphasises early intervention, effective communication, and creating supportive environments that promote positive mental wellbeing.
What to expect
- A calm, practical space to better understand the mental health of children and teens without fear or overwhelm.
- Guidance on what is developmentally normal, what may signal stress or difficulty and how behaviour often communicates unmet needs.
- Clear explanations, real-world examples, and evidence-based strategies that support safety, connection and emotional regulation.
- A focus on building confidence, helping adults know when to lean in, when to seek support and how to respond early in ways that strengthen long-term wellbeing.
Having previously attended Dr Garvey’s professional learning, I can personally share how insightful, practical and reassuring his presentations are. He has a wonderful way of translating complex information about children’s development and behaviour into clear, relatable strategies that genuinely support both home and school life.
We warmly encourage as many families as possible to join this free public online webinar and be part of this important conversation.
