Dear Glenroy College Families,
As we near the end of another vibrant term, it's a pleasure to share with you the wonderful moments and achievements that have brightened our school community. Our students continue to make us proud, showing remarkable growth in both their academic pursuits and personal development.
A Term of Positive Change This term has seen significant improvements in student behaviour, reflecting our collective efforts in fostering a supportive and respectful learning environment. It's heart-warming to witness our students embracing these positive changes, which enhance their learning experiences and interactions each day.
Year 8 Camp Adventure Our Year 8 students recently returned from an exhilarating camp, filled with activities that challenged them to step out of their comfort zones and bond as a team. The experience was a resounding success, with many students discovering new strengths and forming lasting friendships. The personal growth they demonstrated was truly inspiring.
Exploring Future Pathways During Week 10, our students participated in the "Future Healthy Selves" week, which included educational excursions to Victoria University and Melbourne Polytechnic TAFE. These visits provided valuable insights into future career paths and higher education opportunities, sparking curiosity and ambition among our young learners.
Upcoming Junior Sub School Snow Trip Looking ahead, we're excited to announce the Junior Sub School Snow Trip to Lake Mountain Alpine Resort, scheduled for Friday, 19th of July. This outing promises a day of fun, learning, and adventure in the snow, offering students a unique opportunity to build new skills and enjoy the winter wonderland.
End of Term Arrangements Please note that the last day of this term, Friday, 28th of June, will be a half day. Students will be dismissed at lunchtime, allowing families to begin their holiday plans or simply enjoy a longer weekend together.
Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm. Your involvement is crucial to our students' successes and the vibrant spirit of our school community. We look forward to finishing the term strong and starting the next chapter of our journey together.
Warm regards,
Ryan Lok

A fantastic few days at Campaspe Downs Camp with a group of curious and resilient year 8 students. Everyone entered the camp with open minds and left as close friends with memories that they’ll continue to cherish and reflect upon.
Year 8 Winter Camp was an absolute blast - full of laughs, thrills and adventure. Each and every student took on activity with zest and enthusiasm, many overcoming considerable challenges and all working together effectively as a team. It was fantastic to see such a wonderful group of young people thrive and have so much fun.
On 31 May 2024, 21 Glenroy College students took part in an Academy for Enterprising Girls Workshop. Students worked in teams in this "hackathon-style" workshop to solve community problems through social entrepreneurship, and worked through the design thinking process: ideate, validate, prototype and finally pitching their social enterprise ideas back at the end of the day!
On May 24th we were invited to Pascoe Vale Girls to take part in the innovators program. When we were placed into groups with unfamiliar faces it was initially VERY daunting, but it turned into a rewarding experience.
We were tasked with solving four challenging real-life problems. Each group had to select one problem to tackle and come up with a solution together. This process pushed us out of our comfort zones and encouraged us to communicate effectively with our new teammates.
Through this challenge, we not only developed our problem-solving skills but also forged new connections and friendships. It was an incredible opportunity to learn from each other's perspectives and skills, making the entire experience truly memorable.

On Monday 22nd April Year 7 students visited the Melbourne Museum as part of their study of Continuous Australia. At the Museum the groups rotated between four exhibits: the First Peoples’ Gallery, the Millari Gardens, the Forest Gallery and the Melbourne Story exhibit. In the First Peoples’ Gallery, we explored a variety of source material revealing further information about the rich cultures, traditions, beliefs and practices of First Australians, particularly First Victorians, which added to the learning we have been doing in class.
Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity to confirm and add to the learning that has been happening in Humanities so far this year!
We would like to thank Ms Miglino, Monique and Vicki for joining us to support on the day.

This is an account from a 7B student, Yahya Nasir:
"I really enjoyed exploring the Melbourne Museum on our excursion. We explored places like the Millari Gardens, where we saw lots of signs which showed people who said things like "I love my land", we also saw a really small cave with Aboriginal Art. In the Birrarung Gallery, we saw many different things like a language map and The God Eagle, Bunjil".
Earlier this year, four of our students were selected to attend the opening of the new exhibition at Melbourne University’s Science Gallery. The students participated in a range of hands-on learning activities related to the exhibition theme, “Not Natural.” They also met the Minister for Education, Ben Carroll. Glenroy has close relationship with the Science Gallery, with regular excursions booked each year for students in Years 7 and 8 to engage in hands-on STEM learning with university staff.
Year 7s went to the Science Centre of Excellence (SCOE) this term to have a hands on day making electric motors and then designing and making a ‘Formula e’ car to race on the track. The students used their knowledge gained in their science classes over the term and had a wonderful time being very involved with the designing, collaboration and definitely the competition!
Well done to the winners of all classes.
The year 8 Textiles class have been working very hard on designing and making decorated Tote Bags.
Students had to research and develop their designs, based on an end-user. They developed a questionnaire to gather information about who would be using their tote bag, e.g., what would it be used for, what interests, hobbies, likes did their client/end-user have? Etc. Students then wrote a Design Brief outlining what they would be making and began developing different designs for the decoration.
The tote bags were decorated using felt applique which was hand sewn and then sewn onto their machine-sewn tote bag. Students were able to extend their hand sewing skills whilst also developing new skills using a sewing machine.
